An award named after The Champ himself, the 2023 Ken Climo Player of the Year (POTY) race is one of the most exciting races in recent memory. The award’s destiny hung in the balance, decided by a split vote — 50% from media members and 50% from DGPT Tour Card players. With a season brimming with historic achievements by various players, singling out a clear front-runner was a challenge. But behold, emerging from the fierce competition, the crowned 2023 DGPT POTY is none other than Calvin Heimburg.

Surprising to some, expected by others – Calvin’s reign on the Tour this season is undeniable. What sets him apart? Well, for starters, he claimed the throne as the #1 player in the world in the MPO field for the longest duration this season. Securing the top spot with a total of 1245.5 DGPT Tour Points. It’s a testament to his unwavering consistency in a field that’s stacked with talent. Now, let’s dive into the standout stats that define Calvin’s stellar performance this year.

Calvin’s dominance echoes across DGPT Elite, Silver, and PDGA Major events, clinching a 1st-place championship title a total of 3 times this season. Kicking off the season with a bang at the 2023 Las Vegas Challenge, his next win would be the same tournament where he would go on to attain his highest rated round of the season (1073) at the Innova Open at the 28th Annual Texas States, and in his latest 1st-place triumph, he would secure a win at the Play It Again Sports Jonesboro Open. Outside of his 1st place victories, Calvin’s 2023 season stats also tell a story of sheer dominance.

Across DGPT events (Elite, Silver, Championship, and PDGA Majors) this season, Calvin attained a staggering 14 podium finishes (a solid 61%), he’s been a consistent force, securing a top-10 spot 22 times (in 96% of his appearances). If that wasn’t enough, in 2022, Heimburg’s average round rating was an impressive 1040.9. To improve that rating would be an ambitious feat for any pro player. For Heimburg, his average round rating improving to 1051.5 this season reigns supreme as the highest in the fiercely competitive 2023 MPO Field (Ricky Wysocki following with a Ricky: 1,043.9 average round rating). Adding to the impressive record, he’s got a perfect cash rate, bringing in the dough at all 22 DGPT events he participated in this 2023 season (equating to a 100% cash rate).

This season, Calvin added $107,025 to his total career earnings of $359,539. This is nearly 30% of his career total, with the ever evolving and growing purse of DGPT events playing a factor, a win at any Pro Tour event remains elusive and reserved for the very best in the world. Although this is a title that remains a hard difficulty for those to verify, let’s not forget the epic and unforgettable highlights from Calvin this year.

At the Kensington Toboggan course in Milford, MI, during the final round of Discraft’s Great Lakes Open, Calvin hit not 1, but 2 throw-ins for eagle during the same round (equating to -7 thru 5 holes), a feat that would also give him the #4 spot on SportsCenter that week.
