For Immediate Release:

2024 DGPT Championship to Award $300,000 Purse

October 14, 2024: At the end of this week, the Disc Golf Pro Tour (DGPT) will award $300,000 in prize money to 53 top competitors who have qualified for the 2024 DGPT Championship presented by Barbasol based on their final position in the DGPT World Standings.

“Qualifying for the DGPT Championship demands a season of consistent elite-level performance and is itself one of the most impressive achievements in our sport,” said Jeff Spring, DGPT CEO and Tour Director. “Our Championship is focused on coming together to celebrate this achievement, and we’re proud to deliver the third-highest purse in PDGA history for those who have earned their way to the top of the World Standings. The Tour’s legacy of awarding co-equal podium payouts continues this year, and the FPO and MPO Champions will both take home $35,000 this Sunday.”

2024 DGPT Championship Payout Structure

The DGPT will debut a simplified format for its Championship event this year. Like last year, the tournament will consist of four rounds of stroke play, and competitors will receive a starting stroke advantage based on their DGPT World Standings position. However, in a change from 2023, the field will not be cut after the first two rounds, and scores will not be reset at any point during the competition. This means that competitors will maintain their starting stroke advantage for the duration of play, and all players will compete in all four rounds.

“The integration of starting strokes into the DGPT Championship was successful in its 2023 debut and was received well by competitors,” said Jeff Spring, DGPT CEO and Tour Director. “Progression of this concept and its expansion into a four-round format is driven by feedback from players and represents the next step in our cultivation of a compelling Tour Championship for spectators, both onsite and online, while simultaneously honoring the tremendous season-long consistency and elite level play by the best DGPT athletes of the year.”

The DGPT Championship field remains the same as in 2023, with the top 32 MPO and top 20 FPO players in the DGPT World Standings qualifying at the end of the playoff season (MVP Open x OTB). Starting strokes will be awarded as follows:

*As in past seasons, an additional path to qualifying for the 2024 DGPT Championship was offered to winners of DGPT and PDGA Pro Major Events who did not otherwise qualify for the DGPT Championship via the DGPT World Standings. This additional qualification path did not apply to DGPT Europe’s Silver events but did apply to the Tour’s Elite-Series-sanctioned competitions in Europe. Jesse Nieminen, who finished 49th in the World Standings, qualified via this rule by winning the 2024 Copenhagen Open. When players are added to the DGPT Championship via this rule, they no longer displace other qualified competitors.
