The 2023 DGPT End of Season Awards, presented by OTB, marks the culmination of the Disc Golf Pro Tour season. This is the time of year to highlight outstanding players who have demonstrated excellence in their respective areas throughout the season. Here are your 2023 DGPT End of Season Awards recipients!

Your 2023 DGPT Players of the Year

The commencement of the 2023 End of Season Awards begins with the highly anticipated Player of the Year Award. This prestigious accolade includes the Ken Climo Player of the Year Award for the MPO division and the Elaine King Player of the Year Award for the FPO division.  The season witnessed several players achieving various forms of historic success, making the 2023 Player of the Year competition notably one of the most thrilling races in recent history. The criteria for this accolade were established through a split vote, with media members contributing 50% and DGPT Tour Card players accounting for the remaining 50%.

Calvin Heimburg: Named 2023 Ken Climo Player of the Year

Your 2023 DGPT Ken Climo Player of the Year was awarded to Calvin Heimburg (PDGA# 45971). The reigning DGPT Season Long Points Champion and the player who spent the most time as the #1 Player in the World this season, securing the top spot with a total of 1245.5 DGPT Tour Points. Kristin Tattar: Named 2023 Elaine King Player of the Year

Your 2023 DGPT Elaine King Player of the Year was awarded to Kristin Tattar (PDGA# 73986). The reigning 2023 World Champion and 2022 Player of the Year, Kristin Tattar who won 11 times in 2023 including a Pro Major Grand Slam Sweep with victories at all 4 FPO Majors (Champions Cup, European Open, The World Championships, and U.S. Women’s Disc Golf Championship). Your 2023 DGPT Rookies of the Year

The 2023 DGPT Rookie of the Year title is reserved for emerging stars who leave an indelible mark in their debut Pro Tour season. To be eligible for this prestigious honor, players must not have participated in more than three combined DGPT Elite Series events, PDGA National Tour events, or PDGA Professional Major events in the preceding season.

Furthermore, individuals who have competed in two or more PDGA Professional Majors in the same prior season are considered ineligible. The determination of the award involves a split vote format in which media members contribute 50%, and passionate fans contribute the remaining 50%. As we celebrate these rising talents, the 2023 DGPT Rookie of the Year stands as a symbol of excellence and promise in the ever-evolving landscape of professional disc golf.

Silva Saarinen: Named DGPT FPO Rookie of the Year

Silva Saarinen (PDGA# 107335) has officially clinched the 2023 DGPT FPO Rookie of the Year award. By amassing a total of 363.5 DGPT tour points throughout the season, Saarinen ended the season in the 39th ranked position (1st in FPO rookies). Although 77 unique FPO players received at least 10 fan votes for this award, Silva Saarinen dominated the fan vote (over 3.5x the amount of votes as 2nd place) and the media vote (getting over 90% of the vote). Luke Taylor: Named DGPT MPO Rookie of the Year

On the MPO side of the coin, Luke Taylor (PDGA# 102119) has officially clinched the 2023 DGPT MPO Rookie of the Year award. With a total of 237 tour points this season, Taylor landed himself in 55th ranked position. Luke Taylor is currently the 44th ranked player in the MPO UDisc World Rankings. Your 2023 DGPT Most Improved Players of the Year

All eyes are on the 2023 DGPT Most Improved Player of the Year—an accolade celebrating athletes who showcased remarkable progress on the Pro Tour compared to the previous year. The award specifically acknowledges players who made significant strides in the 2023 DGPT Season Long Point Standings compared to 2022. The selection process involves a split vote, with fans contributing 50% and media members the other 50%, and DGPT points total acting as the tiebreaker. Rookies are ineligible for this recognition.

Ali Smith: Named DGPT FPO Most Improved Player

Ali Smith (PDGA# 147050) has officially claimed the 2023 DGPT FPO Most Improved Player award. Her substantial ascent in the DGPT season point standings, soaring from 56th in 2022 to an impressive 12th in 2023, marks a remarkable leap of 44 spots—the most significant advancement within the entire FPO field. This catapulted her to accumulate 626.50 more points this year than the previous season, amassing an impressive overall total of 721.38. Notably, Ali Smith received the highest number of fan votes and the second-highest tally of media votes, with Holyn Handley leading in the latter category. Cole Redalen: Named DGPT MPO Most Improved Player

Cole Redalen (PDGA# 79748) has clinched the esteemed title of the 2023 DGPT MPO Most Improved Player. His significant climb in the DGPT season point standings, ascending from 47th in 2022 to a notable 10th in 2023, represents a remarkable leap of 37 spots. This surge propelled him to amass an impressive total of 797.83 tour points, including an Elite event victory at the 2023 Ledgestone Open. Worth mentioning, Cole Redalen garnered the highest number of fan and media votes, nearly doubling the fan votes of the 2nd-place contender. Read more about Redalen’s historic season.

Your 2023 DGPT Comeback Players of the Year

Introducing the prestigious 2023 DGPT Comeback Player of the Year, a new addition to the End of Season Awards lineup. This accolade celebrates athletes who have triumphantly returned from injury, overcome career slumps with stellar seasons, reentered the full tour after life-altering events, or reclaimed their position at the sport’s pinnacle after a hiatus. The award is determined by a split vote between fans (50%) and media members (50%), who will vote on a list of no more than five competitors nominated by DGPT Tour Card players.

Nominees in the MPO category included Paul Ulibarri, James Proctor, and Ricky Wysocki, while the FPO division featured outstanding contenders Valarie Mandujano, Ali Smith, and Stacie Rawnsley. Recognized for their resilience and skill by their peers, these athletes embody determination in the dynamic realm of disc golf.

Valarie Mandujano: Named DGPT FPO Comeback Player of the Year

Valerie Mandujano (PDGA# 62879) has etched her name in history as the inaugural FPO recipient of the 2023 DGPT Comeback Player of the Year award. Mandujano had a severe grade 3 ankle sprain in the offseason, and missed half the season before coming back and winning the LWS Open at Idlewild. Mandujano’s remarkable achievement is underscored by not only securing the highest number of fan votes but also dominating the media votes, amassing over twice the number of fan votes garnered by the runner-up. James Proctor: Named DGPT MPO Comeback Player of the Year

James Proctor (PDGA# 34250) has made his mark in disc golf history as the 2023 (and first-ever) MPO recipient of the DGPT Comeback Player of the Year award. In a fiercely competitive MPO field, all 3 finalists for this prestigious accolade garnered over 30% of the fan vote each, making it a highly contested award. Proctor was 1040 rated when he went from regional pro to joining the tour in 2021, but slipped all the way down to 1020 by the end of last season. He turned it on this year, amassing an incredible season filled with standout moments. Proctor’s outstanding accomplishment is highlighted by not only securing the highest number of media votes but also clinching the 2nd-highest number of fan votes, with only Paul Ulibarri ahead in the fan vote tally.
