DGPT Releases 2024 Post-Production Media Plan

February 19, 2024: The Disc Golf Pro Tour (DGPT) is pleased to announce its post-production media plans for the 2024 season. JomezPro will continue to provide free next-day YouTube coverage of the FPO and MPO lead cards at all DGPT, DGPT+, DGPT Playoffs, and the DGPT Championship. JomezPro will also provide free next-day coverage of the USWDGC, PDGA Champions Cup, and the PDGA World Championships.

Like last year, JomezPro’s coverage of the 2024 European Open and 2024 United States Disc Golf Championship/Throw Pink Women’s Disc Golf Championship (USDGC & TPWDGC) will first be released on the Disc Golf Network, available exclusively in the recently announced DGN Pro subscription plan. Coverage of these two events will be released for free on YouTube and to the DGN Standard subscription plan beginning two weeks after each tournament’s conclusion.

“We’re thrilled to continue with both FPO and MPO coverage this season, and JomezPro fans won’t have to change their viewing habits this year,” said Jonathan Gomez, President of JomezPro. “Being able to provide coverage of the European Open and USDGC wasn’t possible in years past, but thanks to our deepened partnership with the DGPT, we’re excited for the opportunity to return to Nokia and Rock Hill again this season.”

Also new for the 2024 season is a shift in how the rest of the field beyond the lead card will receive post-production coverage.

With an evident rise in the level of parity on display each weekend, the DGPT has worked hand in hand with JomezPro to shift the post-production strategy away from putting all of the focus on a single pre-determined card of players who may or may not be relevant to the competition throughout the course of an entire round.

This year, the focus will be on delivering a complete competition narrative that includes relevant action and movements up and down the leaderboard across the entire field.

To achieve this goal, the DGPT has made an investment in additional staff for JomezPro, which will now begin including relevant action from across the course in its standard MPO1 and FPO1 coverage. This expanded coverage will provide fans with integrated coverage of the biggest moments, hot rounds, and highlights from the chase card and beyond. In addition to more staff at events and in the editing room, JomezPro will be able to select footage for inclusion from across the entire course, thanks to full access to Disc Golf Network cameras (1)

“While post-pro viewers have grown used to watching dedicated coverage of a singular card each day, there are so many other moments from outside the lead card that define the story of an individual round or overall tournament,” continued Gomez. “Our new strategy will allow us to focus our efforts on telling the story of the whole round, including all players, not just the story of a singular card. This means that we can adjust our coverage to focus on the action that matters the most – no matter where that action takes place. We’re excited to tackle this challenge and provide fans with a single place to catch all the relevant action each day.”

DGPT Media Partners Gatekeeper Media and Ace Run Pro, who provided dedicated FPO and MPO chase card coverage for the 2023 season, will return in a new capacity for 2024.

Ace Run Pro has decided to step away from publishing dedicated FPO chase card coverage but is exploring opportunities to create other content at select events. The Gatekeeper team has also decided not to travel to each event this year, but they will continue publishing MPO chase card coverage for DGPT events and select PDGA Pro Majors using footage from DGN cameras (2). This coverage will be released for free on Gatekeeper’s YouTube channel the week following each event.

“In planning for the 2024 season, we were looking for a way to continue working with our partners while recognizing that there was an opportunity for JomezPro to expand their offerings and create a more complete product for fans,” said Jeff Spring, DGPT CEO and Tour Director. “We are happy to find a solution that allows Gatekeeper to save money but keep producing content while not having to travel to each event, and we’re excited to work with Ace Run Pro on opportunities outside of competition round coverage.”

“Gatekeeper Media and Ace Run Pro have been and will continue to be valued partners of the Tour in our shared effort to introduce disc golf to new players and fans,” continued Spring. “The Tour has supported both groups financially during previous seasons and provided them free access to cover DGPT events for several years. With that in mind, we recognize and appreciate the challenge of keeping a full crew on the road all year long to exclusively provide post-pro chase card coverage. Even though their coverage plans will change this year, we continue to look forward to working with Gatekeeper and Ace Run Pro to tell the story of disc golf and create content for fans.”

GK Pro will continue to host and produce their Tour Series Skins matches at select DGPT events and will host additional skins matches at other locations between tournaments. Events with this activation will allow spectators to purchase tickets and follow along with the commentators during Skins matches.
