What counts as an ace?
The Powerball Ace rules use current PDGA rules for completing a hole. Currently, the PDGA rule 807 (Completing the Hole) says:
A. A target is a device whose purpose is to clearly determine completion of a hole. A basket target is designed to catch discs and generally consists of a tray, chains, and a chain support mounted on a pole. An object target generally has a marked target area.
B. In order to complete a hole with a basket target, the thrower must release the disc and it must come to rest supported by the tray or the chains below the chain support.
C. In order to complete a hole with an object target, the thrower must release the disc and it must strike the marked target area of the object.
The PDGA also clarifies in their FAQ that a disc that lands on top of the basket does NOT count, but a disc that is wedged into the front of the tray DOES count as completing the hole.
Can my disc skip off the ground?
Yes. The disc can skip (or roll) off the ground and still count.
How are contestants drawn and notified?
On Friday afternoon at each of the 15 events featuring the Powerball Ace, the DGPT will randomly select five (5) entrants and notify them via a phone call. Entrants who are drawn must answer the phone, provide a verbal affirmation that they can be at the tournament site as needed the next day, and meet all other eligibility requirements. Entrants who are drawn to participate must also appear on-site at the tournament venue ahead of the contest at a time communicated by the Tour when they are contacted. If you enter the drawing, make sure you answer your phone on Friday afternoon!
How many chances at hitting an ace will each contestant have?
Just one shot. Make it count!
Can I use my own discs?
Contestants in the Powerball Ace contest may choose from a selection of discs provided at the contest or request to use a disc of their own. All discs must be PDGA-approved molds, and are subject to approval by the Tour.
