The Disc Golf Pro Tour, and a good number of last weekends’ competitors, will be traveling from Arkansas to Missouri for the Joe Machens Toyota’s Mid-America Open presented by Discraft, a Silver Series event. Usually held at Harmony Bends, this coming weekend’s 3-round event will be moved to an alternate venue due to flooding after the recent snow; the Back Course at Albert Oakland Park. An announcement from the Disc Golf Pro Tour can be found here. The Mid-America Open is the 3rd Silver Series event of the year and will see 6 of the top 10 in the DGPT standings from the MPO field, and 4 of the top 10 for the FPO division.
The MPO division will be wondering if there is any stopping Ricky Wysocki, after he claimed his 3rd win of the season at the Jonesboro Open this past weekend. With wins at Belton, Texas State Championships, and a T-5th at the Vintage open, Wysocki is showing why he is one of the top rated pros this season and has shown a dominance off the tee and on the green with an average of 1071 rating in his three wins.
One player hoping to dethrone Wysocki will be Kevin Jones, 2020 Mid-America Open winner who finished off the Jonesboro Open also shooting -11, like Wysocki did. Jones jumped up the leaderboard on Sunday, finishing in 4th place. On their heels will be Paul McBeth, Nikko Locastro, Drew Gibson, and Chris Dickerson, who all had top 10 finishes at Jonesboro.
Not to be counted out, Paul Ulibari and Chris Clemons both had top finishes at last year’s event and know what it takes to play a great round. Rising star Casey White is off a T-6th,10th, and T-5th in his last 3 events and has been playing great all season.
Calvin Heimburg and Eagle McMahan finished 2nd and 3rd at Jonesboro, but will not be competing in Missouri this weekend, opening the door for some more movement in the DGPT leaderboard.
The FPO division will see 25 players duel it out on what could be a wet and windy course. Sarah Hokom will be looking to continue her amazing play this season, fresh off two 3rd place finishes at Waco and Jonesboro, and a win at the Vintage Open. She is currently in 4th place in the DGPT standings and will be attending most, if not all, of the DGPT events this season. This tournament could help add some points and move up the leaderboard.
Catrina Allen, Kona Star Panis, and Page Pierce will not be in attendance, and neither will the 2020 Mid-America Open FPO winner, Lisa Fajkus.
Missy Gannon, Valerie Mandujano, and Rebecca Cox will be competing and hoping for a top finish. Gannon has recently racked up a few impressive tournaments, finishing 3rd, 4th, and 7th in the last three DGPT events. Other players like Heather Young and Alexis Mandujano will be players to watch this weekend. With an 8th and 9th place respectively at Jonesboro Open this past weekend, they will likely be aiming for another top finish and will be hoping to move up some slots in the standings.
