Discraft’s Green Mountain Championship is back at Smugglers’ Notch Resort, kicking off the 2025 DGPT Playoffs presented by Barbasol! Since its debut in 2013, this premier professional disc golf event has become a favorite among elite players and has been a key stop on the Disc Golf Pro Tour since 2016. Returning to Vermont after hosting the 2023 PDGA Pro World Championships and opening the 2024 Playoffs, the Green Mountain Championship promises high-stakes action and intense competition.

Players will tackle four rounds across two iconic courses: Brewster Ridge for Rounds 1 and 2, and Fox Run Meadows for Rounds 3 and 4. Known for their challenging layouts, these courses demand precision, strategy, and skill, making the event a true proving ground for the sport’s top pros. Fans can watch the action live, in person, and see the world’s best players compete head-to-head as the DGPT postseason begins. Be sure to check out the latest DGPT World Standings to follow the playoff race and see which players are in position for the championship!

GMC: FPO LOOKAHEAD

  • FPO1 Feature Card: Missy Gannon, Ohn Scoggins, Silva Saarinen, & Holyn Handley
  • FPO2 Feature Card: Ella Hansen, Cadence Burge, Valerie Mandujano, & Kat Mertsch

Here’s a look at the top storylines headed into this weekend:

1️⃣ No Kristin Lätt — Who Takes Over Vermont?

For the first time since 2021, the Green Mountain Championship field will not include Kristin Lätt, who has owned Smugglers’ Notch in recent years with three straight wins (2022 GMC, 2023 Worlds, 2024 GMC). Her absence leaves a new power vacuum at the top. With the entire Top 25 in the DGPT World Standings in attendance except Lätt, this year’s event is wide open for a new champion to emerge at Smuggs.

2️⃣ Silva Saarinen’s Redemption Run

Few players have experienced heartbreak at Smugglers’ Notch like Silva Saarinen did in 2024. Leading by two strokes on the final hole of regulation, she watched victory slip away as Kristin Lätt forced a playoff and took the title. Saarinen has rebounded strongly in 2025, already matching Holyn Handley with four wins and boasting the tour’s best win percentage. Fresh off a 1032-rated course-record final round at DGLO, Saarinen returns to Vermont with a chance to rewrite last year’s painful ending.

3️⃣ Missy Gannon’s Big Money Momentum

Missy Gannon arrives in Vermont as the all-time leader in career earnings at Majors and Elite Series events, having recently surpassed Kristin Lätt. Her DGLO victory added to her reputation as one of the most consistent big-stage performers in FPO. Gannon also set the Brewster Ridge course record in 2024 with a 10-under. Despite multiple strong finishes here, she’s never claimed a GMC title. This year, with top form and the highest rating in the field, Gannon could be the favorite to fill Lätt’s void.

4️⃣ Holyn Handley’s Push to Stay on Top

World Standings leader Holyn Handley looked untouchable for much of 2025, stringing together wins, podiums, and cashing every week. However, back-to-back finishes outside the Top 10 at Ledgestone and Idlewild showed some cracks. She steadied the ship with a podium at DGLO, but Vermont remains a hurdle she’s yet to clear, with no wins at Smugglers’ Notch. With her stats still leading the division in wins, podiums, and cash earned this season, Handley enters GMC looking to reassert herself as the year’s most consistent star.

5️⃣ Legends, Streaks, and Dark Horses

Beyond the headliners, several intriguing names add depth to the GMC field. Ohn Scoggins, the reigning World Champion, has podiumed in both her career GMC starts and is in excellent form. Paige Pierce, a two-time GMC winner, looks to extend her legendary streak of winning at least one Major or Elite each season since 2011. Hailey King, the only FPO player not to miss a Top 10 at a Major/Elite this season (out of 5 events), returns to the site of her 2021 victory. And with Ella Hansen and Eveliina Salonen both seeking breakthroughs at Smugglers’ Notch, the fight for the podium could be one of the deepest of the year.

GMC: MPO LOOKAHEAD

  • MPO1 Feature Card: Isaac Robinson, Calvin Heimburg, Gannon Buhr, & Anthony Barela
  • MPO2 Feature Card: Ricky Wysocki, Paul McBeth, Kyle Klein, & Niklas Anttila

Here’s a look at the top storylines headed into this weekend:

1️⃣ Gannon Buhr’s Quest for Win No. 7

Gannon Buhr has dominated the 2025 season, sitting atop the DGPT World Standings with the largest lead in history—over 500 points clear of Calvin Heimburg. Already a six-time winner this year, Buhr now eyes a seventh season victory at GMC. If he wins out the rest of the season, he’ll break his own record (tied with Paul McBeth) of nine M/ES wins in a single year. Crazy to think that might happen? Gannon’s record says it’s a real possibility.

Buhr’s history at Smuggs makes this chase even more compelling. He set the Fox Run course record (-16) en route to winning GMC in 2024, and his consistency—15 Top 10s in 2025—proves that another title is well within reach. A win here would move him one step closer to not just the seasonal win record, but potentially the all-time player ratings record as well.

2️⃣ Calvin Heimburg’s Push to Close the Gap

While Buhr has stolen the headlines, Calvin Heimburg has quietly put together one of his most consistent seasons. Fresh off his first career PDGA Pro Major win at the European Disc Golf Festival, Heimburg sits second in the World Standings with 15 Top 10s on the year.

He trails Buhr by a daunting 538.5 points, but the Playoff format offers opportunities to close the gap with strong late-season finishes. Heimburg has cashed at every Major/Elite event this year, and if there’s ever a time for a second 2025 victory, it’s now—on the stage where postseason pressure is highest.

3️⃣ Can Ricky Wysocki Rekindle His Vermont Magic?

No one has more history at Smugglers’ Notch than Ricky Wysocki. With five wins across GMC and its earlier iterations, Wysocki has been synonymous with success in Vermont. But 2025 has been uncharacteristically winless for him, despite 11 Top 10s and a strong showing at DGLO.

Sitting fifth in the standings, Wysocki doesn’t need points for survival, but he does need a statement win. Returning to a venue where he’s collected half his career GMC starts as victories could be exactly the spark he needs to reassert himself in the playoff push.

4️⃣ The Battle Around the Cutline

While the stars chase trophies, others are simply fighting to keep their seasons alive. The GMC is the first playoff stop where points matter more than ever: 250 to the winner, with opportunities to leapfrog into MVP Open and ultimately the DGPT Championship.

Right now, Austin Turner holds the final qualifying spot, but the margin is razor-thin—just 16 points over Andrew Presnell, with Silas Shultz, Ben Callaway, Mauri Villmann, and Matthew Orum close behind (NOTE: Ben Callaway and Mauri Villmann have a guaranteed entry to the Tour Championship with their Tour wins this season). A single hot round at Fox Run or Brewster could make the difference between extending the season or heading home early.

5️⃣ The Search for a First 2025 Win

All but two MPO winners this season sit inside the World Standings Top 11, making the upper echelon as tough as ever to crack. But history says GMC can be the place for breakthrough victories—Kevin Jones (2020) and Chris Dickerson (2021) both claimed career-defining wins here.

Names like Kyle Klein (7th in standings, 3 podiums but no win), Anthony Barela (slid to 3rd after cooling off since May), and even defending World Champion Isaac Robinson (winless at GMC but victorious at Champions Cup earlier this year) all enter Vermont searching for a statement victory. With Smuggs’ history of producing both dynasty builders and breakout champions, the door is wide open for someone to finally seize their first win of 2025.

All the action starts on Thursday, September 18th! Tune in to the Disc Golf Network and catch post-pro coverage from JomezPro all weekend.
