A new era begins in Estonia! The Coolbet presents: European Disc Golf Festival 2025 (EDGF), steps into the spotlight as a PDGA Pro Major this season, taking the place of the prestigious European Open, which will host the 2025 PDGA Pro World Championships in just a few weeks. Set for July 17-20 at the iconic Tallinn Song Festival Grounds in Estonia, the event promises a next-level professional disc golf experience.

In 2024, the venue wowed players and fans with stadium screens, packed stands, and a festival-like energy that offered a glimpse into the sport’s exciting future. Widely praised by players for both the course and the atmosphere, the EDGF is shaping up to be one of the must-watch events of the year.

TALLINN WEATHER

EDGF: FPO LOOKAHEAD

  • FPO1 Feature Card: Missy Gannon, Kristin Lätt, Holyn Handley, & Eveliina Salonen
  • FPO2 Feature Card: Ohn Scoggins, Paige Pierce, Silva Saarinen, & Keiti Tätte

Here’s a look at the top storylines headed into this weekend:

1️⃣ Kristin Lätt Chases History on Home Soil

There’s more than just pride on the line for Kristin Lätt in Estonia — she’s hunting a historic eighth FPO Major win. That would break her tie with legends Elaine King, Catrina Allen, and Des Reading, moving her into solo third all-time behind only Valarie Jenkins (16) and Paige Pierce (17).

While her 8th-place finish at the 2024 EDGF was among the worst of her career at the Rockstar course, Lätt’s dominance in Estonia is undeniable. She won the 2023 European Disc Golf Championship on this very course and remains undefeated in Estonian PDGA Euro Tour events. With 68 straight top-10s at M/ES events and only one finish outside the top 5 this season, the Estonian star is poised to write another chapter in her already storied career.

Lätt announced on social media that she is currently dealing with a broken toe, but will still be competing. Will the injury hold her back? Or will she find her stride in Tallinn this weekend?

2️⃣ Eveliina Salonen’s Breakthrough in Europe

Despite four FPO Major titles and the most decorated Major résumé of any Finnish woman, Eveliina Salonen enters the 2025 European Disc Golf Festival searching for her first Major win in Europe since 2018. Last year at this event, she lost in a playoff to Missy Gannon after firing a 56 (-8) in Round 3—one of the best of the tournament. Her powerful tee-to-green game thrives on European layouts like Tallinn’s, but mid-round slumps—such as her 926-rated Round 2 in 2024—have made consistency her toughest obstacle.

With 16 Top-10 finishes in 19 Major starts and one of the highest event ratings ever recorded at a Major (1004 at 2024 Worlds), Salonen’s ceiling remains elite. But this time, a close call won’t cut it. A win in Tallinn would be more than redemption—it would cement her legacy as one of Europe’s greatest FPO players on one of its biggest stages.

3️⃣ Holyn Handley Eyes First Major Win

Holyn Handley enters Tallinn ranked No. 1 in the DGPT World Standings and firmly established as the best player in the world who is still chasing her first Major title. Her recent victory at the Krokhol Open was her seventh Elite Series win, more than any other woman without a Major to her name. With both her first DGPT win and first international start coming on European soil, the continent already holds significance in her career. Could Tallinn now serve as the site of her long-awaited Major breakthrough?

4️⃣ Can Missy Go Back-to-Back in Tallinn?

Missy Gannon returns to Tallinn as the reigning European Disc Golf Festival champion, having edged out Eveliina Salonen in a dramatic playoff to capture the 2024 title—her first victory on European soil and a defining moment in her career. Renowned for her calm under pressure and world-class putting stroke, Gannon has steadily built one of the tour’s most reliable and respected résumés. With two wins already this season, including her second career Major at the PDGA Champions Cup, she enters the 2025 edition not just as a contender, but as a proven closer on disc golf’s biggest stages. Can she defend her crown and further cement her legacy among the FPO elite?

5️⃣ Will a First-Time Major Winner Emerge in Europe?

This event is more than a Major — it’s a potential springboard. Six of the current top-10 players in the DGPT World Standings have never won a PDGA Major in FPO. A European breakthrough would make the 2025 EDGF just the second FPO Major ever won in Europe by a first-timer, joining Eveliina Salonen’s win at the 2018 Konopiště Open.

The candidates? Holyn Handley, Ohn Scoggins, Ella Hansen, Cadence Burge, Silva Saarinen, and Kat Mertsch. For this group, the opportunity is as historic as it is career-defining.

EDGF: MPO LOOKAHEAD

  • MPO1 Feature Card: Ricky Wysocki, Niklas Anttila, Gannon Buhr, & Albert Tamm
  • MPO2 Feature Card: Mauri Villmann, Paul McBeth, Anthony Barela, & Isaac Robinson

Here’s a look at the top storylines headed into this weekend:

1️⃣ Can Ricky Wysocki Recapture the Magic?

No player made a bigger statement at last year’s EDGF than Ricky Wysocki, who dominated the competition with a 1117-rated opening round. This performance ranks as the highest-rated MPO round in DGPT history and one of the very best rounds of his entire career. But the 2025 season has been a different story. Despite sitting third in the DGPT World Standings, Wysocki has yet to capture a title, facing tough competition and battling some inconsistency. Returning to Tallinn as the defending champion, Wysocki is under pressure not just to compete but to prove he still has what it takes to dominate on the biggest stage. A strong showing here could reset momentum for a late-season charge and silence any doubts about his ability to close out events.

2️⃣ Gannon Buhr Is Still #1—& Still Climbing

At only 20 years old, Gannon Buhr has emerged as a true force on tour and is currently leading the DGPT World Standings with a commanding margin. He’s won three events so far this season and boasts nine top-five finishes in just twelve tournaments, demonstrating remarkable consistency. Buhr is already a Major winner in Europe, having taken the 2024 European Open, and has proven he can handle pressure on the biggest stages.

3️⃣ The Best Without a Major: AB, Heimburg, & Antilla Chase History

A key storyline in MPO this season is the pursuit of a first Major win by some of the tour’s most talented and consistent players. Anthony Barela, Calvin Heimburg, and Niklas Antilla have all claimed multiple Elite Series victories but remain without a Major title. Barela was especially strong in 2024 with four DGPT wins, while Heimburg, who has 11 Elite wins in his career, continues climbing the DGPT standings despite no podium finishes this year. Antilla has come close multiple times, with four second-place finishes at MPO Majors and a best European Major finish of fourth at the 2022 European Open.

The 2025 European Disc Golf Festival presents an ideal chance for these three to finally break through. Tallinn’s course, which rewards aggressive yet strategic play, could be the perfect setting for Barela, Heimburg, and Antilla to overcome their Major droughts and claim career-defining victories that would elevate their legacies in the sport.

4️⃣ McBeth’s European Dominance Faces a New Test

Paul McBeth’s legacy in Europe is unmatched. With seven Major wins on the continent in 14 appearances, he sits among the all-time greats, and his success overseas rivals his storied career in the United States. Last year in Tallinn, McBeth came within a single stroke of victory, ultimately settling for second, then backed that up with a third-place finish at the European Open.

However, 2025 has been a bit of a rollercoaster; while he’s still ranked in the top 10 worldwide, he hasn’t managed back-to-back podiums at Major or Elite events since 2022. Known for his ability to elevate his game on high-pressure rounds, McBeth’s challenge will be to find that consistent edge again, especially with a stacked field hungry to knock him off the throne. Will he rediscover his European form and add another Major title to his impressive collection?

5️⃣ Who Will Break Through? The Wildcard Watchlist

One of the most intriguing aspects of the European Disc Golf Festival is its unpredictability—last year, only one player who finished in the EDGF top five is currently in the top seven of this year’s DGPT standings, underscoring just how open this event can be. This year’s tournament has a strong group of potential breakout stars and dark horses.

Ezra Aderhold, with a 1084-rated round last year, is now sixth in the DGPT standings and ready to compete and win after proving he can at the Discmania Challenge a few weeks ago. Kyle Klein and Adam Hammes have shown flashes of strong play but seek consistent Major success. Sullivan Tipton, having multiple top-10 finishes this season, and Ben Callaway, fresh off a Krokhol Open win and his 100th Elite start, complete a group poised to challenge the leaders. Expect surprise contenders to push the favorites throughout the event.

All the action starts on Thursday, July 17th! Tune in to the Disc Golf Network for Round 1, and DGN Pro for Rounds 2-4, and catch post-pro coverage from JomezPro (feature card) and MDG Media (chase card) next day on DGN Pro, and one week after the tournament concludes on YouTube.
