For Immediate Release:

DGPT’s OTB Open Venue to Host 2025 PDGA Champions Cup

May 15, 2024: Today, the Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) announced that the 2025 PDGA Champions Cup will be held at Swenson Park in Stockton, CA, the familiar location for the Disc Golf Pro Tour’s OTB Open presented by MVP Disc Sports. This news marks a significant upgrade for the OTB Open venue, elevating it to PDGA Pro Major status under the Champions Cup banner.

The 2025 PDGA Champions Cup will take place from Thursday, May 1, to Sunday, May 4, 2025. In order to maintain the Disc Golf Pro Tour’s standard of competitors not playing points-earning events on the same course twice in one season, the PDGA Champions Cup will replace the OTB Open on next year’s schedule.

Sean Jack (DGPT VP of Partnerships) and Shawn Mercy, current Co-Tournament Directors of the OTB Open, will continue their roles for next year’s Major.

Jack & Mercy, who have been running Elite Series events since 2018, were both Assistant Tournament Directors at the PDGA Professional World Championships last year at Smugglers’ Notch in Vermont. With that experience, the two organizers look forward to bringing a Pro Major to California and the West Coast disc golf audience.

“We are thrilled to announce that the 2025 PDGA Champions Cup will be hosted in NorCal, marking the first MPO/FPO-Major hosted in California since the 2011 PDGA Pro World Championships,” said Shawn Mercy. “With the region’s pleasant spring weather and fantastic partners, we are poised to deliver an unforgettable event,” said Sean Jack.

“The DGPT is proud to watch the OTB Open venue ascend to PDGA Pro Major status for the 2025 season,” said Jeff Spring, DGPT CEO. “This event has grown to be a stalwart for the DGPT on the West Coast, and we’re looking forward to exploring the addition of another DGPT event in the region for an expanded West Coast swing next year.”

“We are confident in the 2025 PDGA Champions Cup local organizing committee, 1000 Rated Productions, to host next year’s PDGA Champions Cup,” said Doug Bjerkaas, PDGA Executive Director. “Furthermore, we are delighted that the DGPT has committed to backing the LOC as they prepare to run one of the most important PDGA Majors next year.”

The 2024 OTB Open, now a preview event for the 2025 PDGA Pro Major, kicks off on Friday, May 17. Spectator passes are available for purchase at DGPT.com/tickets
