WACO MPO Day Two Recap: McBeth Starts off Hot but Koling Leads going into Final Day

With the winds down and the conditions nearly perfect, Brazos East provided scoring opportunities aplenty for the competitors in Waco, Texas. Paul McBeth started off the day on fire, going 10-under through the first nine but it was Jeremy Koling who ended the day with the lead.

On the windy, wooded hole 15, tournament hole nine, McBeth gave himself an eagle look from the right side of the woods from about fifty feet out. McBeth snaked his putt through the trees to finish his first nine hole, 10-under par. McBeast mode activated. McBeth clanked off the basket for birdie from circle two on hole 16 but followed up with birdies on 17 and 18, the last two holes of the wooded stretch. From there, McBeth cooled off considerably, going even through the last six holes to finish with a 12-under par, 55 for the day.

With McBeth streaking, his cardmate, Jeremy Koling, was lurking in the background waiting to take advantage if McBeth were to falter. Koling started off slow but birdied a stretch of nine holes in the middle of the course to keep pace with Paul. Going into hole five, tournament hole 17, Koling sat two strokes behind McBeth at 21 under. Both players had similar circle two putts on the difficult par four and after McBeth sailed his putt high and out of bounds, Koling stepped up and jammed his for birdie to pull the pair even. Koling then went on to birdie 18 and with a McBeth par, Koling finished the day in solo possession of first place at a tournament total of 23-under par.

McBeth now shares second place with Nate Perkins who shot a 13-under par, 54 to secure his place on the final day lead card. Garrett Gurthie shot a 13-under of his own to rise 11 spots and in a tie for fourth with Devan Owens at a tournament total of 19-under. Nate Sexton, JohnE McCray, Patrick Brown and Andrew Presnell are in a logjam for sixth at 18-under.
