Can Paige Pierce be stopped?
That has to be the question on the minds of her competitors in the
FPO division at the Waco Charity Open presented by Dynamic Discs. After a hot start to her season, Pierce threw a 7 under par, 60, to outpace the field and jump out to a five stroke lead over second place, Sarah Hokom (-2). Texas local, Lisa Fajkus rounded out the stop three with a 2 over par, 69.
Pierce was stellar today, carding nine birdies en route to the top position. The main blunder for Paige came on hole eleven, a 264 feet par 3. Pierce missed the fairway and an inside the circle putt to card a double bogey, five. As per usual, the Texas native was deadly accurate off the tee, finding the fairway on 80% of her drives. Pierce was also able to knock down most of her putts (90%) inside circle 1.
Pierce’s closest competitor, for the second week in a row, is to be Sarah Hokom. Hokom was even more accurate than Pierce off the tee, hitting an incredible 85% of the fairways. The separation between her and the leader was in circle 1. Hokom struggled throughout the round, only hitting 78% of circle 1 putts. If Sarah can find her putting stroke, she just might be able to challenge Paige.
Fajkus found herself in third place after draining 94% of her circle 1 putts. Lisa ran into some trouble carding big numbers, with two double bogies on the day. Stephanie Vincent, from Austin, TX, throwing a four over par, 71, will fill out tomorrow’s lead card. Unfortunately, Catrina Allen struggled to find her rhythm, finishing the day in a tie for sixth place at 5 over par.
The action continues in Waco tomorrow as the the top females take on the BEast course again. Can anyone challenge Pierce or will she continue her hot streak? Check back here tomorrow night for day-by-day coverage of the Waco Charity Open presented by Dynamic Discs to find out.
