After a logjam on top of the leaderboard after day one, day two saw Paige Pierce separate herself from the field at Vista Del Camino. Shooting a 6-under par, 54, Pierce put five
strokes between her and the rest of the field going into moving day. Jennifer Allen, Jessica Weese, and Sarah Hokom are all currently sitting in a tie for second place at three-under par and after going into the day with a share of the lead, Catrina Allen faltered and now sits eight back from Pierce in fifth place.
Pierce improved on her one pitfall from yesterday, her putting. After putting 72% from Circle 1 and zero made Circle 2 putts on day one, Pierce rode her putter to the hot round of day two. Paige hit 83% of her Circle 1 putts and knocked down an impressive three of six Circle 2 putts including fifty footers on hole nine and sixteen. Combined with her 78% fairway hits including reaching Circle 2 in regulation 72% of the time, Pierce made herself the woman to chase for the rest of the event.
Paige Pierce’s UDisc Scorecard from Day Two of The Memorial
Jennifer Allen and Jessica Weese each shot two-under par, 58s to move them into second place and on day three’s lead card. Weese found herself in Circle 2, with a chance for birdie, eight times throughout the second round. Weese was unable to knock down any of her long putts but made her comebacker each time, en route to a 100% Circle 1 putting percentage.
Sarah Hokom and Catrina Allen came into the day tied for the lead but both now find themselves several strokes from Pierce. Hokom faired better than Allen as she used a conservative gameplan and a strong approach game to keep herself shooting par throughout the day. Hokom ended the day with two birdies compared to one bogey and finished with a one-under, 59 for the round. Allen’s putting woes continued and her 69% Circle 1 putting percentage, including a four-putt on hole seven, was the contributing factor to her two-over par, 62, round that put her at even-par for the tournament and in a tie with Lisa Fajkus for fifth place.
Paige Pierce has made herself the person to catch on moving day. Will she open up the door for someone else to make a run or will she separate herself even further going into the final day?
