Under cloudy skies, the FPO division kicked off the first round of the San Francisco Open presented by Innova Disc Golf. Round one at Gleneagles played tough as
\only three out of the twenty-one competitors finished their rounds under par.
Sarah Hokom, sidearm master, currently holds the top spot after round one at three under par. The California native shot an even par after the first nine holes, then really heated up towards the end of her round, birdieing four out of the last five holes. Hokom’s putting game was on point as she finished fourth in the pack with a 90% success rate for putts inside Circle 1. The leader stayed out of trouble more than most, carding only four bogeys on the day, with the majority of the 21 player field finishing over par.
Val Jenkins controls sole possession of second place at two under par, thanks to a bogey-less back nine. Jenkins finished round one with 80% fairway hits along with six birdies. Catrina Allen was the third and final player to finish a round under par, carding a one under score on day one. Allen tied Hokom, with a field-leading seven birdies but unfortunately bogeyed a third of the course.
Paige Pierce had an uncharacteristically slow start, with a three-over par score after the front nine. Things came back to normal for Pierce on the back nine, posting back-to-back birdies on the final two holes to finish the day at even par.
