It’s moving day today at the San Francisco Open presented by Innova Champion Discs. Under cloudy skies and breezy conditions, the FPO division came out ready
to attack the challenging Gleneagles course, which only allowed 3 FPO players to finish their rounds under Par after day one. The lead card for round two features Sarah Hokom in the lead (-3), Valarie Jenkins with 2nd place (-2), Catrina Allen in 3rd (-1), with the currently undefeated Paige Pierce tied in a log-jam for 4th place, at even par. Yesterday’s round showed that Paige Pierce will have her work cut out for her if she wants to keep her winning streak alive, as she struggled a bit on the front 9 before regaining her composure and carding back-to-back birdies to finish-off her round tied for 4th place with Jessica Weese, and Madison Walker, at even par.
Paige quickly showed her game-face at the start of round two by canning a huge birdy putt from outside Circle 2 on the 668-foot Hole #1. Sarah Hokom responded with an amazing forehand ace on the 347-foot Hole #3. Sarah’s ace put the pressure on Paige, who ended up carding a bogey on the same hole, creating a 3-stroke swing in Sarah’s favor.
Sarah continued to play bogey-free on the front 9, hitting 100% fairways and carding birdies on holes 7 and 9; making a statement that she came to win, and will not relinquish the lead without a fight. However, keeping her in check, Paige recovered from her bogey on #3 by immediately birding the 507-foot Hole #4 and carding another birdy on Hole #8, to make the turn 2-down, and vaulting herself into 2nd place with Jessica Weese, and both 5-strokes off the lead. Valarie Jenkins held steady on the front 9 with pars and one bogey, while Catrina Allen struggled a bit carding 3-bogies and 1-birdy, and both dropping 2-spots.
Paige Pierce was on a mission to close the gap on the back 9, as she carded birdies on holes 10 and 13, while Sarah Hokom cooled off, playing more conservatively for pars on holes 10 thru 14. Paige stumbled with bogies on holes 14 and 16 but finished strong, carding birdies on the final two holes, as she did the 1st round.
On the chase card, and tied for 2nd place starting the back 9, Jessica Weese was determined to cut the lead moving into the final round. Her aggressive play and determination on the back 9 resulted in a string of 4-birdies in 5-holes, with only 1-bogey on Hole #11, to finish with an impressive 4-down 62 on the round and in a solid tie for 2nd place with Paige Pierce going into the final round, tomorrow. They will all be chasing the leader, Sarah Hokom, who shot a flawless round of 59 today, with 5-birdies an ace. She will be going into the final round with a comfortable 6-stroke lead.
After day two, the long and challenging Gleneagles course only allowed 3 FPO players to finish under par today, out of a stacked field of 21-players. Other notable finishes include Catrina Allen, who had an up and down round but finishing strong, birding 2 of the final 3-holes, and securing a spot on the lead card for the final round at even par for the tournament. Valarie Jenkins finished the day at +2 and tied for 4th place with Catrina heading into the final round. Ellen Widboom jumped 5 positions today into a tie for 8th place with Kona Star Panis, who jumped 3 positions, and Nicole Bradley, all at +6 for the tournament going into the final round.
