Tour Championship begins September 17th. Top 48 in Tour Points qualify.

2016 is a starter year for the Pro Tour. Going into the season, players had no real expectations as to what the DGPT Season would entail nor what it would take to qualify for the Tour Championship. With four events down and one to go, things are coming into focus.
The cut line is currently 35.5, or 9 points per event. Presuming this average continues across the final Pro Tour event – Discraft’s Green Mountain Championship – players will need 45 points to qualify for the Tour Championship. Let’s look at some notable players who are on the bubble, their current points, and what they would probably need to qualify.

  • Dana Vicich, 40 points, a top 60 finish will probably get him in
  • Steve Brinster – 36 points, a top 50 finish
  • Nick Masters – 32 points, a top 36 finish
  • Chris “Critter” Meyer – 30 points, a top 34 finish
  • Jason Dore – 29 points, a top 33 finish
  • Tomas Rosenqvist – 29 points, a top 33 finish
  • Taylor Cimala – 28 points, a top 32 finish
  • Eric Oaklay – 26 points, a top 30 finish
  • Jamie Mosier – 26 points, a top 30 finish
  • Chris Finn – 20 points, a top 25 finish
  • Don Smith – 16 points, a top 20 finish
  • Dave Feldberg – 0 points, a top 5 finish

For many of these players (Masters, Critter, Rosenqvist, Cimala, Mosier, Finn and Don Smith), they will need to have their best DGPT finish ever to make the Tour Championship. For others, they have played fewer DGPT events and just need to perform the way they know they can (Vicich, Brinster, Dore, and Eric Oakley). For Dave Feldberg, he is on the registration list, but his status is uncertain. If he does play, he would probably need a top 5 finish to earn enough points to qualify for the Tour Championship. And if he does, he would quickly become one of top ten favorites to win the whole thing.

Exciting times are brewing. Stay tuned all week for analysis and prognostications about the Tour Championship.
