The Open at Austin Disc Golf Pro Tour Returning to Harvey Penick in 2024

The Open at Austin is gearing up for another exciting DGPT competition as the world’s top pros are returning to Harvey Penick Golf Campus in 2024 for three intense rounds from March 15-17. The course will have a very different feel, with five new holes being created in the woods along Walnut Creek. “These new holes have allowed us room to get more creative with the open golf areas surrounding the creek, and we are confident we have an increasingly competitive, entertaining, and fun mix of holes for players and spectators alike,” said Neal Dambra, the Open’s Tournament Director. “In fact, only six holes remain unchanged from 2023, so get ready for a whole new course experience at Harvey Penick!”

A New Start and End!

Another significant change to the site plan is the starting and finishing hole positions. Holes 1 and 18 are now by the local rugby complex parking area, eliminating the need to shuttle players for their tee times. With this change, both players and spectators now have just a short walk from parking to the opening and finishing holes. The rugby clubhouse will serve all week as the location for event administration, some media production, and a player lounge.

New Vending & Spectating Opportunities

Vending areas will be available in both the rugby complex and on-course by holes 1 and 18, with some satellite vendor spots remaining by the upper pavilion area, including primary food vendors. In addition, spectators will have a new secluded viewing area in a meadow surrounded by new holes 6-7-8, where they will be able to watch three consecutive wooded technical holes (pars 4-3-4) from one location. We are affectionately calling the meadow the “Biergarten” and are looking to fulfill the nickname with local breweries making the scene.

Spectators should note that tickets were limited in 2023 due to parking constraints, and all VIP passes sold out pre-event. The good news is that we are adding some additional parking in 2024, allowing a modest increase in ticket availability, but don’t wait to get your passes! Early bird VIP passes are scheduled for December, so stay tuned for an announcement coming soon regarding ticket sales. You can follow updates on the DGPT’s Eventbrite page here

Get Involved Today!

We’d like to again thank our 2023 presenting sponsor, Lone Star Disc, and 2015-2022 sponsor, Discraft, for their past support of the event as we enter our 10th year. In 2024, the DGPT will be taking a larger role in producing the event at a local level and will be assisting with event partnerships. Locally, we are seeking a company or business to become a title sponsor and benefit from Austin’s tight-knit community of thousands of recreational disc golfers. Inquiries are welcome at theopendgc@nealdambra.com and sean@dgpt.com

Come For The Tournament and Stay for the Music!

As it was in 2023, the tournament is taking place during Austin’s world-famous SXSW music festival! What is more, this year The Open will be followed immediately by the 2024 PDGA United States Women’s Disc Golf Championship sponsored by Mint Discs – also taking place in Austin. The local staff and directors of The Open at Austin look forward to seeing y’all again this March for some big disc golf doins’ in the capital of Texas. And, yes, Stetsons will again be awarded to our champion disc golfers of the year.
