The Tattar Era:
Tattar’s recent win at US Women’s brought her 6th Major title and 4th this season. With this win, she has tied with Juliana Korver for the 6th-most Major titles in FPO all-time. In addition, she has accomplished something that no other woman has done before by sweeping all 4 FPO Majors this season. Tattar is a true trailblazer in the sport and has broken records by surpassing the $100k PDGA earnings mark twice, which is an incredible feat for any player.

Kristin’s nine wins this 2023 have placed her alongside the elites, joining the ranks of players like Paige Pierce and Valarie Jenkins with 9+ E/M win seasons. The battle for the most birdies this season is intense. While Kristin leads in birdies per round (6.95), Holyn Handley leads in total birdies (477). If Kristin can keep up the energy this week, she will be one event closer to what many fans are calling the “FPO Super Slam,” which would be all four Majors + the TPWDGC and the DGPT Championship, which will take place next week in Charlotte, NC.

Missy Gannon’s Throw Pink Mastery & Hailey King’s Winthrop Success:
Gannon has showcased consistency in this championship as the 2021 Throw Pink winner and 4th in 2022. She’s one of only two players to have finished in the top 5 for both years of the Throw Pink events. King has finished in the top 10 at every event she’s played at Winthrop. With her impressive average of over 6 birdies per round this season, King is undoubtedly a top contender.

Catrina Allen’s Resilience:
Despite a challenging year, with eight of her nine worst FPO finishes occurring in 2023, Allen is still the reigning Throw Pink champion and deserves to be in the conversation this week. The spotlight will be on her to see if she can defend her throne at Winthrop and end the season on an upswing

Steady Scoggins:
While never finishing on the podium at Winthrop, Ohn Scoggins has maintained her presence in the Top 10 at the 2021 and 2022 Throw Pink Women’s Disc Golf Championship. With her 13-straight FPO event streak of Top-5 finishes, she’s a player who can’t be overlooked.

Winthrop Overview:
Winthrop’s shorter FPO layout might seem less challenging, but with its tight margins for error, players must remain precise. Holes like 10 & 12 offer clear scoring opportunities but come with a risk. A slight misstep can lead to players being heavily penalized.

The final two holes, 17 & 18, are touted as the most challenging on the tour for FPO, promising high drama as the championship concludes.

Players Poised for Breakthroughs:
After her standout podium finish in her 2021 FPO Major debut, Ella Hansen is a player to watch this season. Meanwhile, Henna Blomroos and Eveliina Salonen, despite early-season struggles, especially with putting, have recently showcased remarkable form. Their PDGA profiles show consistent top-10 finishes in their last four events, with both securing top 5 positions in all but Blomroos’s 8th place at MVP.

The 2023 Throw Pink Women’s Championship is shaping up to be one of the most exciting tournaments of the year. With a blend of seasoned pros, rising stars, and compelling storylines, fans are in for a treat. Will Tattar continue her dominance? Can Allen find her form and defend her title? All eyes will be on Winthrop as these questions unfold.
