The final Silver Series event is in the books for the Disc Golf Pro Tour, and a few players in each division were able to take advantage of the additional points garnered by the event.
In the FPO division this weekend, there were three touring Pros looking to add to their Tour Points and increase their standings. Two of those players ended up battling it out for first and second place.
Sarah Hokom and Jessica Weese traded the lead back and forth throughout the event. Hokom, who was third in Tour Points, going into the event would move up into second place with a victory. Weese could move up to fifth and be in position for a bye to the Tour Championship semifinals with a strong finish at Jonesboro.
During round one at Pineland Farms, Weese carded the hot round to gain a three-stroke lead on the field. Hokom came up in second but five strokes ahead of third. As play moved over to Bittersweet Ridge, it was clearly a two-horse race between Weese and Hokom. Day two of competition saw both players card the same score, course par 59. Going into the final round of competition, the tournament was Weese’s to lose.
Round three saw the lead change by hole five after Hokom moved into a tie within the first three holes. Hokom would finish the front nine three-under-par to Weese’s two-over-par for a five-stroke swing. Hokom’s two-stroke advantage would be short-lived as she carded three bogeys in a row to start the back nine. Down the stretch, Weese would card three bogeys of her own, and Hokom would land two more birdies to finish with the win.
By winning, Hokom will move up into second place in Tour Standings. Weese still moves up to fifth in Tour Standings with her second-place finish.
The final Pro Tour stop of the regular season takes place October 1-3rd, and you can watch it live on the Disc Golf Network!
The MPO division saw quite a few Touring Pros travel up to Maine for a shot at some late season extra DGPT points.
In the first round, Canadian Thomas Gilbert and Mainer Josh Seeley set the pace, carding eight-under hot rounds to kick things off.
Moving day saw Garrett Gurthie move up into the lead after shooting one-off the pace in round one. Simon Lizotte and Terry Rothlisberger made big moves at Bittersweet Ridge, jumping up thirteen and eighteen spots, respectively. Their efforts put them in fifth and eighth going into Championship Sunday.
In the final round, Gurthie was able to extend his lead and cruised to victory by shooting the hot round of the day, ten-under-par. Rothlisberger and Lizotte also continued their moving day push to move up into a tie for second alongside Thomas Gilbert.
There was some movement in the MPO Tour Standings, but Terry Rothlisberger received the most considerable boost. With his second-place finish, Rothlisberger moved up from just outside the Tour Championship cut line into the qualified grouping.
