Jonesboro Open MPO Round One Recap: The course record return of Double G

The rain held off during the first round of the Jonesboro Open presented by Prodiscus and the Pros showed up to play. Garrett Gurthie shot the course record today carding
a bogey free -14. Double G decided to return to the tour full time this year and it appears his mojo is back. On the front nine Garrett shot -8, on the back nine he cooled down but landed an impressive eagle on hole sixteen, making it to the edge of the water on his drive and then over the water to circle one and in the basket for three. Double G is known for his long drives and he displayed them throughout the day here at the Disc Side of Heaven Championship Course. Those who have followed the game for years will recognize his name and should not be surprised to see him out on top again. Garrett is quickly showing even with a few years off from the tour he still has the skill to come out on top.
Early during the round we saw a few familiar faces card hot rounds early. Dave Feldberg and Will Schusterick made the best of their early tee times both shooting -10 on the day, coming into the clubhouse early with the lead. Both Will and Dave had one blemish on their scorecard, but other than that they played clean golf that will see them both on the chase card tomorrow.
Eagle McMahon played on the card with Double G and did his best to keep pace early on. Eagle carded one bogey on the day on hole 17. Eagle is now in a three way tie for second going into round two. Sitting only two throws behind Double G, Eagle will look to attack on moving day tomorrow here at the Jonesboro Open presented by Prodiscus.
Also tied with Eagle McMahon for second is James Conrad and Ricky Wysocki. Both James and Ricky made it through the round without carding a bogey. James played consistent golf today, carding -6 on both the front and the back nine. He will look to capitalize on his consistent play tomorrow when he takes on the lead card with the others. Ricky started off gunning for the lead, carding a -7 front nine, but ultimately landed a three hole par string that slowed him down and landed him in the quagmire that is second place.
Make sure you are ready to watch the action live tomorrow at 4pm ET. Garrett Gurthie, James Conrad, Eagle McMahon, and Ricky Wysocki will be on the live card so you will not want to miss out!
