Paige Pierce shot the hot round of the day with a four under par. But how she achieved the spectacular round was by dominating all statistics. A low putt average can mean one of two things: a player is biting off a lot of distance making for some short putts, or they’re struggling and need an extra shot to get to the basket. Paige ended her day with a putting average of 11 feet, accomplishing this with some long drives and some parked up shots. Her longest putt of the day was on hole #1 where she drove just over 400 feet and threw in a putt from 49 feet away to card a birdie. Not to mention she is the only FPO player to get a birdie on the hole the entire day.
Another impressive number for Pierce was the amount of fairways that she hit during the day, keeping the discs between the lines 74% of the time. Paige only missed the center on holes four and seven. Even more remarkable was her 100% scrambling rate. She scrambled five times, and each time, was able to save par. Paige finished the first round leading in 6 out of 8 statistical categories.

Sarah Hokom battled against the numbers today. By far, the stat that caused the most trouble was her inability to scramble for par. When she needed to make something happen, or recover from a mistake, she dropped to 57% scrambling rate. Sarah was able to Birdie more than anyone in the field with five birdies on the day. Hokom was held back by her circle 2 putting score for the day was 0 out of 5 (0%). Sarah’s circle 1 rate reached 90%, sinking 18 of 20 putts within the circle.

Jessica Weese played a round of opposites today. Overall she played a pretty clean round with no out-of-bounds, but a heartbreaking double bogey found her on hole 18. She still held the lead with Paige Pierce most of the round but inevitably, she fell two strokes behind and here’s why. Despite having an 88% scrambling rate, she was forced to fix eight total fairway misses dropping her fairway hits rate to 53%. She could not seem to keep it in the landing zones but scrambled seven times to make up her errant throws. An area she excelled was giving the fans a putting clinic, finding the chains 17 out of 17 putts and even throwing in a 38 footer from circle 2 range.

Melody Waibel, sitting in fourth place, achieved a 75% scrambling rate (third among the field) to save some strokes. Melody’s putting was solid as she made 18 out of 21 putts 85% circle 1 rate.
Jennifer Allen, is tied for first amongst the other players inside the circle going 17 for 17. What was not a surprise was Jennifer never drove short the entire day.
