The hype couldn’t be any higher.

With a loaded field from players around the world, the 2022 Disc Golf Pro Tour — the official pro tour of the PDGA — kicks off Thursday in the desert at the Las Vegas Challenge – Presented by Innova.

There are story lines throughout the the first PDGA Elite Series event of 2022, from an international contingent of 25 players (15 in MPO/10 in FPO) from outside the United States, by far the most since 2020, to top players debuting new sponsors after an explosive offseason.

In FPO, the 10 highest rated female players are in the mix, including Kristin Tattar, who shined in a brief tour of the United States in 2021, as well as the Finnish duo of Henna Blomroos and Eveliina Salonen. Then there’s the defending champion, Paige Pierce, reigning PDGA World Champion Catrina Allen debuting a new disc sponsor, Missy Gannon, Hailey King.. you get the idea of what to expect on the FPO side of things this weekend.

According to StatMando, the 2022 LVC field has the most 970-plus rated players (5), most 960-rated players (8) and most 950-rated players (11) of all-time.

Ricky Wysocki enters the four-round tournament as the highest-rated player in the MPO field, as well as the top-ranked player in the recently-released PDGA U.S. Tour Rankings, which will be updated based on every player’s finishes at tour stops in the United States.

Defending LVC Champion Eagle McMahon looks to continue his dominance in Vegas, Chris Dickerson is debuting a new disc sponsor as well, and they will all be battling against top international competitors like Linus Carlsson, a 1035-rated player from Sweden, as well as the return of fan-favorite Seppo Paju, Iceland’s Blær Örn Ásgeirsson and a host of players from Norway.

The hype is real.
