FPO Honorable Mention: Jennifer Allen and Paige Pierce both were in a position to eagle hole 14 today. While Paige did not have a clear line, you can never count her out. Ultimately, her putt hit a late tree and she finished with the birdie three. Jennifer’s first throw landed in the open and Jennifer opted to play for the three instead of running an eagle putt and missing long.
In the MPO division hole 16 was the one to eagle today. Both Eric Oakley and Matt Mayo carded impressive eagles on sixteen, almost landing the albatrosses with throws over the water. Other notables with eagles on sixteen include: Ricky Wysocki, Colten Montgomery, Devan Owens, Tim Barham, Tommy Arianoutsos, and Kevin Jones.
Paige started the round carding three birdies in a row which set her on pace for another hot finish. Madison Walker also had a birdie streak today that pushed her into a tie for second place. Jennifer Allen birdied twelve, fourteen, fifteen, and sixteen to ensure she would finish in that tie.
Carding an -11 today, Joel Freeman landed 11 birdies and no bogeys to finish with the hot round for today. With no bogeys Joel moved up 14 spots on the day to finish tied for ninth place.
The hole to watch for birdies today in the MPO division was hole 5. There were four, which is impressive considering how close the out of bounds is to the green. Jacob Henson and Nate Sexton parked the drive and had tap in birdies. If you were watching live you were able to see James Conrad land his from just inside C1 and finally (and most impressively) Christopher Meyer threw in his two from 89ft out.
In the FPO division both Madison Walker and Jennifer Allen carded bogeys late that ultimately landed them in a tie for second place. Madison played nearly perfect golf her two back-to-back bogeys on sixteen and seventeen moved her down to finish in the tie with Jennifer. Jennifer had the opportunity to finish with sole ownership of second place had she not thrown OB off the tee on 18 and finished with a double bogey seven.
In the MPO division there were plenty of bogeys on the course. A few notables…
Kevin Jones landed a double bogey on hole twelve. He went OB on the drive and struggled to recover from there. If he had only parred that hole he would have finished tied for 11th with Chris Dickerson.
Speaking of Chris Dickerson, Chris started three for three but then double bogeyed hole six and landed back-to-back bogeys on holes twelve and thirteen to finish his round -2 and just outside the top ten in 11th place.
It was an exciting weekend at the Jonesboro Open presented by Prodiscus. The Pro Tour will return at the San Francisco Open May 25-27th. Make sure you are ready to watch!
