DGPT Tee Time Policy

The Disc Golf Pro Tour has implemented a Tee Time policy to assist with uniform tee time assignments across all DGPT events. Moving forward events will be expected to use the following policy to ensure equal distribution of players across each card during round one (outside of feature cards).

Tee Time Policy
With the notable exception of the Feature Cards, see Appendix A, all tee times will be randomly assigned by quartiles at DGPT events.

Quartiles

  1. Divide the players, by PDGA rating, into quartiles
    • Group 1: Top 25% of PDGA rated players
    • Group 2: 2nd 25% of PDGA rated players
    • Group 3: 3rd 25% of PDGA rated players
    • Group 4: 4th 25% of PDGA rated players
  2. Choose one player from each quartile randomly
  3. These players will make a card
  4. Repeat this process until all cards are made

Extra Feature Cards
When possible, extra feature cards may be made due to additional camera crews onsite. These should be made in a similar manner to the Feature Cards in Appendix A.

Sponsor Requests
Extra considerations may be made if partners of the event have reasonable requests.

Appendix A: Feature Card Selection
Players must have given the approval to be considered for inclusion on feature cards.
Three MPO and one FPO Fan Vote winners will play.
Players can be Fan Voted into feature cards max of three times per season
Players cannot be Fan Voted into feature cards in back to back events

Schedule
Monday: Two Mondays before an event, Feature Cards are announced and Fan Vote starts
Do NOT include players designated to be on Feature Cards to be in the Fan Vote
Wednesday at 5 PM Eastern the votes will be counted
Wednesday at 8 PM Eastern on Pro Tour Talk with Steve Dodge, we announce the Fan Vote winners

I’m not an expert with policies and procedures, but I can see a few holes in this description. Are the feature cards determined before the other random cards? If not, how are the holes created by the feature players filled in the tee times? Does this policy apply to shotguns starts and how would holes be assigned to the random cards? What does the card coverage section have to do with the policy? It is not explained. If I might suggest, this might be better as a procedure starting with step 1 decide if you want feature cards and how many; Step 2 determine feature card players; Step 3 sort remaining players by player rating and divide into quartiles; Step 4 randomly select players in threesomes/foursomes and assign tee time or hole number.

      1. Yes, feature cards are set well before tee times are set.
      2. There is no shotgun starts at Pro Tour events.
      3. The card coverage section explains how the feature cards are selected before tee times are set.
