The first round of Discraft’s Great Lakes Open is in the books for the FPO division. Today had a feature card which included Sarah Hokom, Ragna Bygde Lewis, Courtney Cannon, and Krystal Fromm. The fans voted and expected Ragna to come out and wow, she struggled on the putting green early and was never able to put together a solid round. She started the day with a bogey, and at one point on the back nine remarked that she had not had a three all round.
On the feature card, Sarah Hokom was the pro to watch as she started the day -1 and maintained that position until hole nine where she carded her only bogey for the day. Sarah would play par golf on the day which was good enough to keep her in second going into day two.
Starting off early Holly Finley carded back-to-back birdies on holes two and three and pushed to lead the field until she landed back-to-back bogies on holes seven and eight. Another bogey on hole ten was enough to move her into the +1 category. Shooting one over for the day was enough to keep her on the lead card for tomorrow.
Rebecca Cox was another FPO player who played consistent golf this morning. Rebecca was one of the seventeen FPO players to card a birdie or better on hole two. Her birdie helped to keep her on the top card, for tomorrow with her +1 on the day.
Jessica Weese landed an eagle on hole two, and that was all it took for her to gain a two throw advantage on the field early. Jessica’s eagle was her only bright spot on the front nine. Jessica carded bogeys on holes four and eight to place her back at even going into the back nine. She grabbed back-to-back twos on holes 14 and 15. The two birdies propelled her into the lead at -1 on the day. On hole seventeen Jessica added another birdie for good measure. Jessica was the only FPO player to finish under par for the day and will enter round two with a two throw lead over the rest of the field.
What to watch for on day two
Moving day at the Toboggan course is going to be one to watch on the FPO division. We will have Rebecca Cox joining the top card again for the first time in a while at a Disc Golf Pro Tour event. Holly Finley came back to the tour in style, making it on the lead card for day two after playing her first Pro Tour event since 2016. Being on the big stage at the Toboggan course these two will be ones to tune in and watch at 2 PM ET tomorrow.
Not on coverage but players to watch on Udisc tomorrow will be Ellen Widboom, Madison Walker, and Paige Bjerkaas they are all on the chase card tomorrow and will be looking to make moves after shooting +1 and +3’s respectively.
Tune in this afternoon at 2 PM ET to catch the shot-by-shot coverage of Sarah Hokom’s round and get caught up on all of the action before catching Sarah and Jessica battle it out against the field tomorrow at the same time.
