As the sun sets on another thrilling season of the Disc Golf Pro Tour, the highlights of 2023 will be remembered in the history of disc golf. With its grand finale event, the 2023 DGPT Championship presented by Barbasol, we witnessed extraordinary feats and unforgettable moments that will be talked about for years to come. From nail-biting showdowns to record-breaking performances, this year’s Tour Championship delivered everything a disc golf enthusiast could hope for.

Missy Gannon Triumphs in FPO Field

In the FPO division, Missy Gannon (PDGA# 85942) emerged as the shining star of the 2023 DGPT Championship. Starting the final round in third place, she displayed unwavering determination and poise throughout the competition. With consistent and committed play, Gannon worked her way up the ranks, ultimately seizing victory.

Missy Gannon’s triumph marks her second career Tour Championship win. What makes this victory even more remarkable is that she is now tied for the record of most Tour Championship wins in the FPO division. Joining the elite ranks alongside Catrina Allen, Gannon’s name is forever etched in disc golf history.

Gannon’s victory came with a substantial reward – a cash prize of $40,000, the highest of her career. This remarkable achievement supersedes her previous best payouts, both also from the Tour Championship, in 2021 and 2022, which were $30,000 and $14,000 respectively.

When you break down Gannon’s performance, the statistics speak for themselves. She topped the charts in Parked percentage at an impressive 11%, Fairway Hits percentage at 82%, and Circle 1X Putting with an astonishing 100%. She also claimed the second-best spot in Birdie Percentage at 28%, reaching Circle 2 in Regulation at a stellar 50%. Missy Gannon’s performance at the 2023 DGPT Championship was nothing short of exceptional, and she thoroughly earned her place in disc golf history.

Ricky Wysocki Makes History in MPO Field

In the MPO division, the 2023 DGPT Championship showcased the unrivaled prowess of Ricky Wysocki (PDGA# 38008). His remarkable performance at this event makes him the first player, in either division, to clinch the Tour Championship title three times, having previously triumphed in 2017, 2022, and now, in 2023.

Ricky Wysocki’s road to victory was paved with sensational achievements. In the final two rounds of the tournament, he claimed the top spot in Circle 2 Putting percentage at a remarkable 86%. Not including one of his incredible putts taken on Hole 15 allowing him to maintain a 2-stroke lead with 2 holes left to play…

His Birdie percentage soared to an impressive 58%, and he also secured the second-best spot in Parked percentage at 11%. Furthermore, Wysocki ranked third in reaching Circle 2 in Regulation at 56%, according to UDisc statistics.

Notably, Wysocki’s performance during the third round of the Tour Championship was nothing short of legendary. He shot the hot round of the tournament at 10 under par, a remarkable feat, fueled by an incredible stretch of eight consecutive birdies between Hole 8 and Hole 15. This remarkable performance propelled Wysocki into first place by a significant three-stroke lead heading into the final round. He then held onto that lead with unwavering determination to clinch the title.

The 2023 DGPT Championship was a fitting conclusion to an outstanding season, celebrating the immense talent and dedication of disc golf’s top athletes. As we look back at this year’s Tour Championship, we can’t help but be excited about the future of this dynamic sport. With names like Missy Gannon and Ricky Wysocki making history, we eagerly anticipate the next season of the Disc Golf Pro Tour, which is sure to be another thrilling chapter in the world of disc golf.
