How To Watch Discraft’s Cascade Challenge presented by GRIPeq

Disc Golf Network Broadcasting All Three Rounds LIVE!

The Cascade Challenge presented by GRIPeq is here! This new DGPT Silver Event will take place at Shelton Springs, a beautiful Pacific North West disc golf course, 90 miles away from Seattle in Shelton, WA.

The Course

This course has a few open holes, but most of it winds through a dense evergreen forest. The trees create tight lines for players to navigate, and hitting gaps in the foliage off the tee will be at a premium this weekend. The Mason County Disc Golf Club, which manages the course and is working closely with the local event team to support the event, has been a critical part of ensuring that the event was able to run at Shelton Springs this season.

Shelton Springs, home to three different course layouts, has been adjusted to create a new competition layout for the Cascade Challenge. With both the MPO and FPO tracks coming in on the shorter side relative to other courses on tour (8,219 ft for MPO and 7,285 ft for FPO), we will likely see accuracy and putting become the defining metrics for success at Shelton Springs. Even with a slightly shorter layout than is typical on Tour these days, the course will still challenge players with plenty of two shot holes. Both fields will contend with seven par fours and that will demand strategic placement off the tee. The added challenge of mandatory flight paths on holes 2, 6, 8, and 10 will require players to carefully consider their shot selection and execution. Tune in to see which players are able to navigate this new course (on Tour) successfully and come out on top on Sunday!

A Look Ahead to This Weekend’s Field

There are plenty of big names headed into this weekend’s tournament with Eagle McMahon (fresh off his first 2023 DGPT win at the Beaver State Fling), Gannon Buhr, and Ricky Wysocki sitting atop the registration list in MPO.

On the FPO side, Holyn Handley is your highest rated competitor with Ella Hansen and recent first time Elite Event winner Kat Mertsch just behind her.

A Note From Our Broadcast Team

The 2023 Cascade Challenge is a new Silver Event on the Disc Golf Pro Tour. This event, taking place at Shelton Springs Disc Golf Course (Shelton, Washington) is located in a rural area with limited cellular network capabilities. While the Disc Golf Network team is doing everything possible to ensure high quality coverage this weekend, there is a portion of this course that we expect to present a few challenges for the live broadcast.

Holes 14 – 17 may offer a challenge in terms of signal quality for our LiveU camera technology that transmits the raw Disc Golf Network footage to our control room.

What does this mean for you as a viewer?
You may see some adjusted coverage of this portion of the course which could include less shots from these holes, or some new camera angles as our team works to stay in the areas with the best coverage. While we still anticipate being able to bring you coverage from this portion of the course, we may focus more on the rest of the action this weekend.

At the DGPT, two of our core values are transparent communication and continual improvement. This weekend we’re exercising both as we strive to bring you the best broadcast possible with current resources. Please be aware of this as you’re enjoying the broadcast from Shelton Springs.

We’re thrilled to be bringing you the action from a new event and new course on Tour. Enjoy the coverage this weekend!
