9.26 (12:20 PM ET): Based on updates from the National Weather Service and continued consultation with the DGPT meteorology team at Perry Weather, play will remain suspended for the remainder of the day after an initial suspension this morning. The DGPT operations staff has observed limbs falling on the course within the circle, and local wind readings from the National Weather Service show high wind speeds of 46mph within the last hour.

As of now, the forecast continues to list similar conditions throughout the day. Tomorrow’s forecast is currently projecting more favorable wind conditions, and play is expected to resume on Sunday pending further monitoring of projected weather patterns.

The tournament has officially been shortened to three rounds. Further updates to the competition schedule will be published later this afternoon.

The rest of this article contains information initially published the evening of Friday, September 25th, 2026.

Based on continued updates from the National Weather Service and the DGPT’s meteorologist team, round three at the 2026 MVP Open on Saturday is expected to experience heavy rainfall, potential lightning, and high wind levels with gusts that could suspend play. Current projections include similar or worsening conditions for Sunday’s final round.

“Forecasts are calling for a significant weather system to move through the East Coast this weekend, with rain and periods of stronger winds expected across the region,” said Seth Munsey, DGPT Safety Director. “At Maple Hill, current forecasts call for two to four inches of rain and gusts up to or over 50 mph during the final two rounds. We’re closely monitoring conditions, evaluating the course, and working with our meteorology team as the forecast develops. We’ll continue to make adjustments as needed, with the safety and experience of players, staff, and fans guiding our decisions throughout the weekend.”

The Tour remains focused on safety above all else. Thus, in an effort to allow for as much of the tournament as possible to be completed, the DGPT has made the following changes to the remainder of the MVP Open competition schedule.

Earlier Weekend Tee Times

The Tour has adjusted the competition schedule for both Saturday and Sunday as follows:

  • FPO rounds will begin at 7:30 AM ET with the lead card at 9:20 AM ET
  • MPO rounds will begin at 9:40 AM ET with the lead card at 1:35 PM ET

By starting competition earlier in the day, the Tour is working to allow for competition to end earlier and decrease the risk of severe weather impacting the completion of the tournament.

Disc Golf Network Sunday Projected Broadcast Times

The Disc Golf Network will cover both the FPO and MPO rounds as normal with separate broadcasts. The current projected broadcast schedule is as follows:

  • FPO Weekend Broadcast Time: 9:00 AM ET
  • MPO Weekend Broadcast Time: 1:15 PM ET

Potential for a Cut to the Field or a Shorter Layout

While all players typically play all rounds at DGPT Playoff events, the DGPT is preparing for the need to implement a cut at some point this weekend. The Tour is also evaluating the option of adjusting the competition layout for the final two rounds to abbreviate the number of holes played. The decision to implement either of these options will be made based on continued monitoring of current and projected weather conditions.

What to Expect This Weekend

With the adjustment to tee times, the DGPT is making every effort to allow for as much of the event to be completed as possible, but play is likely to be suspended at some point this weekend. The approaching Nor’easter storm is expected to cause severe conditions throughout the weekend, and the DGPT Safety & Tour Operations teams will continue to monitor the forecast closely throughout the remainder of the event. Please note that play may be suspended ahead of certain thresholds being met, allowing time to safely clear players and spectators off the course before conditions deteriorate.

If competition is suspended at any point, staff will signal stoppage of play with three short blasts on a horn. If play is stopped, the DGPT asks that everyone immediately return to their vehicles, following all directions from DGPT and event staff on site.

We appreciate your flexibility and understanding as we prioritize safety for everyone on-site and work to maintain the best possible conditions for competition. Stay tuned to official DGPT channels for any additional updates (www.dgpt.com/event-updates).

Decision Making on Extending Competition into Monday

While the PDGA rules regarding the completion of an event on the following day have changed for the 2026 season to allow for limited Monday competition when severe weather impacts an event at the Elite or Major level, the Disc Golf Pro Tour does not intend to use this provision in every instance that weather affects an event.

The DGPT will continue to use the tools available via the PDGA Mid-Event Suspension & Cancellation Policy to make all attempts possible to complete events on Sunday, including cuts to the field and shortening competition layouts to less than 18 holes.

“In the event that a winner cannot be determined due to the impacts of severe weather, or in other unique situations, the DGPT may implement the use of this new rule mechanism to complete play on the following day,” said Jeff Spring, DGPT CEO and Tour Director. “In considering the employment of this rule, the DGPT must weigh a variety of variables, including Tour logistics planning, player and volunteer availability, travel schedules, facilities & infrastructure considerations, spectators, vendors, event partners, and the substantial financial impact of returning for another day.”
