Portland Hosts New DGPT+ Event! Top Storylines & How to Watch the Northwest Disc Golf Championship
The Tour makes its much-anticipated return to Portland, Oregon, for the Northwest Disc Golf Championship presented by Latitude 64°. This exciting new addition to the DGPT+ schedule spans four days across two premier venues that previously hosted separate Tour events.
Players will face the Riverbend Gold layout at Milo McIver for rounds one and two, then finish on the Glendoveer East course for rounds three and four. With direct support of the Stumptown Disc Golf Club and the 2027 PDGA World Championships already on the horizon (to be hosted at the same venues), this week offers players a critical opportunity to make their mark in Oregon. WEATHER THIS WEEKEND
The forecast for the Northwest Disc Golf Championship in Portland, Oregon is looking mostly favorable for a weekend of competitive disc golf. Low temperatures each day will range from the mid-40s to mid-50s, so early rounds might feel a bit brisk. Thursday is the only day with a chance of rain, while Friday and Saturday are expected to be noticeably warmer before things cool off a bit again on Sunday. All in all, a classic Portland mix with just enough variety to keep things interesting!

Here’s a look at the top storylines headed into this weekend:
1️⃣ Handley’s Oregon Dominance Could Continue
No FPO player has been more consistent in 2025 than Holyn Handley, and no player (except maybe Paige Pierce) is more comfortable in Oregon. She returns to the Northwest as the defending Beaver State Fling champion, the current DGPT points leader (by 131.33 points to Lätt), and has finished in the Top-5 at every event this season. With recent history on her side—including runner-up finishes at both the 2024 Portland Open and 2023 Beaver State Fling—Handley is well-positioned to chase her third Elite win of the season (took first in Austin and Kansas City) and solidify her control atop the standings.
2️⃣ Gannon Chases Three Straight
Missy Gannon enters the Northwest Disc Golf Championships on a tear. After back-to-back wins at the 2025 PDGA Champions Cup and Cascade Challenge, she’s looking to become the first FPO player since Kristin Lätt in 2023 to win three straight Major / Elite Series events. Her elite-level consistency continues to shine: Gannon has cashed at 87 straight events (since the 2022 Las Vegas Challenge), tied with Juliana Korver for the longest known streak in FPO history. If her putter stays hot, a three-peat is well within reach.
3️⃣ Paige Pierce Returns to a Proven Battleground
Paige Pierce owns more Elite Series wins in Oregon than any FPO player in history, with five victories in the state, including last year’s Portland Open, where she outdueled Handley in a thrilling -26 performance. Pierce also owns two wins at the Beaver State Fling (2019 & 2017) and has never finished outside the Top 10 at Oregon Tour events. After a slow start to 2025, she’s found her stride with podiums at the Cascade Challenge and Champions Cup. This is a venue—and moment—built for a Paige Pierce push.
4️⃣ Can a New Name Break Through in the Northwest?
The absence of several top Europeans, including Kristin Lätt, opens the door for a potential first-time winner—or a return to the podium for players like Ella Hansen, Jennifer Allen, and Silva Saarinen. Hansen knows these Oregon courses well and is among the Tour’s most explosive players when on. Allen is a past Beaver State Fling winner (2023) and has the power game to keep pace at Milo and Glendoveer. Saarinen continues to rise up the standings and could be poised for a breakout showing.

1️⃣ Gannon Buhr Looks to Repeat & Reignite
This time last year, Gannon Buhr was sitting on just one early-season win before launching one of the most dominant stretches in recent history—rattling off eight additional tour victories, including both the Portland Open and Beaver State Fling, en route to 2024 Player of the Year honors. Now back at the site of that surge, Buhr once again has just one win in the books for 2025—but he’s #1 in the DGPT standings and has been playing sharp all season, making it nearly 85% of the time when putting for birdie or better from C1X this season. Can lightning strike twice in the Pacific Northwest?
2️⃣ Anthony Barela Riding Career-High Consistency
Fresh off his first win of the season at the Cascade Challenge, Anthony Barela arrives in Portland with the longest Top-20 streak of his career (10 straight M/ES events). It’s a redemption arc in the making—after last year’s mid-season collapse started with a 44th at Portland and 61st at Beaver State, and started a stretch of eight events where he finished outside of 35th place five times. Barela’s putter remains one of the best when it matters: he’s converted almost 92% of his C1X putts when scrambling to save par-or-worse this season. If he can keep his putter on fire this weekend, we may see an upset to his 2024 storyline.
3️⃣ Wysocki’s Oregon Record is Untouchable
With 13 straight Top-10 finishes in Oregon M/ES events (out of 14 starts), Ricky Wysocki is the model of consistency in the PNW. He also boasts two Beaver State Fling wins, going back to back at Milo McIver in 2016 and 2017. Now ranked 5th in the DGPT standings, Wysocki is still looking for his first win of 2025—but remains among the best at converting opportunities into birdies and avoiding major mistakes. Don’t be surprised to see him in the hunt once again this weekend.
4️⃣ Can Eagle McMahon Reclaim His Portland Magic?
Few players have found the same top-of-the-podium success in the Pacific Northwest as Eagle McMahon, who notched four Oregon victories between 2018 and 2023, including three Beaver State Flings (2018, 2019, 2023) and the 2021 Portland Open. Though recent seasons have seen him battling injuries and corresponding inconsistencies, his track record on these courses makes him a perpetual dark horse. If Eagle can dial in the putt and unleash his trademark power lines, he could remind everyone why he once ruled these woods.
