The 2024 PDGA Pro World Championships presented by ZÜCA are kicking off in Lynchburg, Virginia, on August 21st. Players will be tackling two brand new courses making their debut on the PDGA Pro Major and Disc Golf Pro Tour stages: the Discraft Course at New London and the Innova Champion Course at Ivy Hill. These courses are rumored to be no easy feat, with consistency and resilience expected to play crucial roles in determining the champions of this demanding 5-day PDGA Pro Major.

WEATHER THIS WEEKEND

The weather this weekend should set up for some ideal scoring conditions with temperatures in the high 70s early in the week ramping up to the high 80s over the weekend. Winds are expected to stay under 10 miles per hour, with very little chance of precipitation. Conditions are expected to stay mostly clear, with some cloud cover throughout the week, but no storms in the forecast as of Tuesday morning.

1️⃣ Kristin Tattar’s Pursuit of a Three-Peat

Kristin Tattar, the reigning two-time FPO World Champion, is aiming for a historic third consecutive title. If successful, she would become the fourth player in FPO history to achieve this feat. Tattar is entering Worlds as the top-ranked player globally, with five DGPT wins this season and a commanding presence at every event.

2️⃣ Missy Gannon’s First World Title Bid

Missy Gannon, who finished second to Tattar at Worlds in 2023, is aiming to take the next step in her career by winning her first World Championship. She currently leads the DGPT World Standings and claimed her first FPO Major at this year’s U.S. Women’s Championship. A win at Worlds would solidify her position as one of the top players in the sport and add to her 2024 successes.

3️⃣ Holyn Handley’s Momentum

Holyn Handley comes into Worlds with back-to-back podium finishes in the past two years, marking her as a consistent performer on the biggest stage. She has won her first two DGPT events this season and leads the FPO field with nine podium finishes in 2024. A win at Worlds would earn her the first Major victory of her career.

4️⃣ Ohn Scoggins’ Return from Injury

Ohn Scoggins, the reigning four-time FP40 World Champion, aims to add an FPO title to her accolades after being forced to withdraw from the 2023 Worlds due to injury. With two DGPT wins in 2024 and a near-perfect track record of top-10 finishes, Scoggins is a formidable contender.

5️⃣ Eveliina Salonen Seeking Major Win

Eveliina Salonen, who captured her first PDGA Pro Major win in the United States this season at the 2024 Champions Cup, is looking to make her mark at Worlds. Salonen, with three top-five finishes at Worlds, is eyeing her third career Major at this event.

Here’s a look at the top storylines headed into this weekend:

1️⃣ Gannon Buhr’s Quest for History

Gannon Buhr, at 19 years old, aims to become the youngest MPO World Champion in 40 years, following Sam Ferrans’ 1984 win at the age of 16. Already a two-time Junior World Champion, Buhr boasts two all time MPO Major titles and five Elite Series victories in 2024. His dominance in four-round events this season may give  him an edge in this five-round Worlds format.

2️⃣ Ricky Wysocki’s Quest for a 7th Major

Ricky Wysocki is chasing his first Major victory since his 2017 Worlds win, aiming for his 7th MPO Major title. Despite recent injury struggles, Wysocki has three DGPT wins in the last two months and recently claimed the DGPT European Points title after the last European points series event of the year. His late season push could be key to ending a streak of 19-Straight PDGA Pro Majors without a win.

3️⃣ Paul McBeth’s Quest for #7

Paul McBeth, a six-time World Champion, is chasing history of his own with a seventh World Title. With a victory, McBeth would tie Ken Climo for the most PDGA Pro Major titles in MPO history at 18. Though McBeth has yet to win a DGPT event in 2024, he has proven time and time again that he can deliver when the stakes are highest. Combine that with his efforts in designing the New London course, and there’s no limit to what he could achieve this week.
