In the Know: Your Guide to Watching the 22024 Turku Open with Top Storylines & Stats

The 2024 Turku Open, a DGPT Europe Event, will take place from June 14th to June 16th at the renowned Luolavuori disc golf course, conveniently located near the city center of Turku, Suomi. This year’s Turku Open promises to be the biggest and best yet, with a top-tier international player lineup and a revamped, more challenging course.

2024 Beaver State Fling Recap

Holyn Handley secured her first career DGPT victory at the 2024 Beaver State Fling, triumphing in a dramatic playoff against Ohn Scoggins. This win, her 13th podium finish, propels Handley to the top of the DGPT World Standings for the first time. Gannon Buhr also shone, clinching his second consecutive Oregon victory, marking his 7th career Tour win. In his return to competition, 3-time World Champion Nate Doss finished T71st, adding to the event’s excitement. The tournament was highlighted by a unique couple’s ace on Hole 13 by Holly Finley and Noah Fiveash, both making SportsCenter’s Top 10. Continue reading…

Key Storylines to Watch:

  • Eveliina Salonen (FIN) – Currently 4th in the DGPT standings, Salonen has claimed first place at the Invitational, PDGA Champions Cup, and Copenhagen Open. Her performance this season makes her a top favorite.
  • Henna Blomroos (FIN) – Blomroos, ranked 10th in the DGPT Standings, boasts a 2nd place finish at the PDGA Champions Cup and 4th at the Open at Austin. She leads in several key metrics, including Fairway Hits (78.72%) and Parked shots (14.58%).
  • Silva Saarinen (FIN) – Saarinen has had an exceptional season with wins at the Norway Open and Heinola Open, and a 3rd place finish at the Copenhagen Open. She also secured 4th place at the PDGA Champions Cup.
  • Kaidi Allsalu (EST) – Allsalu is a formidable contender with 2nd place finishes at the Copenhagen Open and Heinola Open. Her stats are impressive: 71.93% Fairway Hits, 29.63% C1 in Regulation, and 50.93% C2 in Regulation.

Key Storylines to Watch:

  • Niklas Anttila (FIN) –  Anttila has been in outstanding form, winning the Open at Austin and Discraft’s Cascade Challenge (Q-Series), and securing second place at Prodigy presents WACO, PDGA Champions Cup, and the Copenhagen Open. Currently 4th in the DGPT Standings, he’s a player to watch this weekend. 
  • Jesse Nieminen (FIN) – Fresh off victories at the Copenhagen Open (the first DGPT Europe Elite event of the year) and a 9th place finish at the Invitational presented by Discraft to start the season, Nieminen is in excellent form and ready to contend.
  • Silver Lätt (EST) – Lätt has been consistent with a 2nd place at the Norway Open and 3rd at the Belgian Open. His recent form makes him a strong contender.
  • James Proctor (USA) – A winner at the All Star Weekend Doubles and Singles, Proctor also secured a 12th place finish at the Play It Again Sports Jonesboro Open.
