The season finale has arrived, and the 2024 DGPT Championship presented by Barbasol returns to Nevin Park in Charlotte, North Carolina! Renowned for its demanding and technical layout, Nevin offers a heavily wooded course with narrow fairways, elevation shifts, and a mix of hole lengths that push players’ accuracy and strategy to the limit. With seeding and advantage strokes based on DGPT World Standings, expect a thrilling showcase of high-risk, high-reward plays.

A HISTORIC PURSE AWAITS!

The 2024 DGPT Championship presented by Barbasol will award a $300,000 purse to 53 top competitors based on the DGPT World Standings. DGPT CEO Jeff Spring noted that both FPO and MPO champions will receive $35,000 each, continuing the tradition of equal podium payouts. This year’s Championship will feature four rounds of stroke play, with competitors keeping their starting stroke advantage throughout the event and no cuts after the first two rounds. WEATHER THIS WEEK

The 2024 DGPT Championship is expected to have dry conditions, with no rain currently in the forecast. However, the development of a tropical storm will be monitored closely in the days leading up to the event. High temperatures will rise throughout the weekend, but expect chilly mornings, with the possibility of frost on Thursday and Friday. Winds are projected to remain calm for the duration of the tournament, creating ideal conditions for both players and spectators.

Here’s a look at the top storylines headed into this weekend:

1️⃣ Missy Gannon: DGPT Points Champ and 2x DGPT Champion

Missy Gannon’s incredible 2024 season has solidified her place at the top of the FPO division. For the first time in her career, she claimed the DGPT Points title, narrowly edging out Holyn Handley by just 19.4 points—the slimmest margin in Tour history. Gannon’s season was highlighted by five Elite Series wins, making her the only player to ever win the DGPT Points title without holding the most victories on tour.

Gannon is no stranger to the Tour Championship spotlight. She’s a two-time champion (2021, 2023) and over the course of her career has earned over $86,000 from this event alone. With a -10 stroke advantage going into the Championship, she’s poised to make another deep run, potentially becoming the first FPO player to win the DGPT Championship three times.

2️⃣Kristin Tattar’s Quest for History

Kristin Tattar, the 2022 Tour Champion and 2024 Tour wins leader, is having another stellar year with six Major and Elite Series (M/ES) victories. Coming off her latest triumph at the Throw Pink Women’s Disc Golf Championship, Tattar has proven herself as one of the most consistent and dominant forces in the sport.

Tattar is on the brink of breaking her own record for most cash earned in a season, needing just over $30,000 to surpass her 2023 total. She also has a chance to climb to second on the all-time PDGA career earnings list, trailing only Catrina Allen. Tattar’s playoff experience and incredible ability to perform under pressure make her a key contender for her second Tour Championship.

3️⃣ Holyn Handley’s Breakout Season

Holyn Handley is the breakout star of 2024. After a solid 2023, Handley has risen to new heights this year, finishing second in the DGPT standings and collecting her first three career Elite Series victories. She became the first FPO player since Catrina Allen in 2012 to win her first three Major/Elite Series events in a single season.

Handley’s consistency, with 10 podium finishes and 19 top-10s in 20 starts, makes her one of the most dangerous players in the field. With a -9 stroke advantage heading into the Tour Championship, Handley is in prime position to push for her first major title on the biggest stage of the year.

Here’s a look at the top storylines headed into this weekend:

1️⃣ Gannon Buhr Chasing History

Gannon Buhr is the clear standout heading into the 2024 DGPT Championship. Buhr leads the DGPT standings with 1542 points, securing his first DGPT points title. With eight Major and Elite Series victories this year, he’s just one win away from tying the all-time MPO season win record (Paul McBeth’s 9-win 2019 season). Starting with a -10 stroke advantage, Buhr is also within reach of breaking $200,000 in season earnings—a mark no player has ever achieved. As the reigning points leader, all eyes will be on Buhr to see if he can cap off his historic season with a Tour Championship victory.

2️⃣ Ricky Wysocki’s Nevin Dominance

Ricky Wysocki has made Nevin Park his personal playground, winning the last two DGPT Championships held there. A three-time Tour Championship winner (2017, 2022, 2023), Wysocki thrives in Charlotte, and he’ll start this year’s event with a -9 stroke advantage as the second seed. Wysocki has three Elite Series wins in 2024, 12 podium finishes, and 17 top 10s, making him one of the most consistent players this season. Can Wysocki continue his Nevin dominance and secure his fourth Tour Championship win?

3️⃣ Veterans in the Hunt: McBeth, Dickerson, and Heimburg

Several experienced veterans are poised to make a run at this year’s title. Paul McBeth, back after missing last year’s Tour Championship, will start with a -6 stroke advantage. McBeth, a six-time world champion, has always been a threat at big events.

Chris Dickerson, a two-time Tour Champion (2018, 2019), also enters the tournament with a -5 stroke advantage. Though he hasn’t been in contention to win the Tour Championship since 2020, Dickerson’s experience and past success in this event make him a dangerous player to watch.

Calvin Heimburg, the fourth seed, starts with a -7 stroke advantage and has consistently finished near the top at the Tour Championship. He’ll be looking to improve on his past finishes and make a strong push for his first title.
