âThe first round of the DGPT Championship presented by Prodigy Disc is in the books for the FPO division. Today two cards played in the quarterfinals to determine which top four scores would advance.
The cards were sorted by Tour Points with 5-8 on a card and 9-12 on a card.
The 9 AM card featured the players who were ranked 9-12 which included Ellen Widboom, Kona Panis, Courtney Cannon, and Tina Oakley.
Ellen started with a bogey but was able to reign things in down the stretch. Kona, Courtney, and Tina all stayed within par during the first three holes with Kona dipping under par with a birdie on three. On hole four Ellen would get her first birdie of the day. This would move Ellen back to even, where Kona Panis also moved to after carding her first bogey for the day. Kona stayed at par until hole eight where she carded another bogey. At that point in the round, Kona was looking at the possibility of advancing to the semifinals round.
On the other hand, Ellen had built a deficit that needed to be overcome. Going into the back nine Ellen was +5 and Kona was +1, Tina was at +5 with Ellen and Courtney was at +8. At this point in the round, Kona was sitting in third out of the eight players playing and Ellen and Tina were only three away from fourth.
Down the stretch, Ellen was able to keep things in check only taking two more bogeys and landing a birdie on 16.
Starting on 10, Kona began to struggle and was not able to recover. As the throws began adding up, the story shifted from Kona and possibly one other player on the 9 AM card advancing to if Ellen could outlast Lisa to advance to semifinals. Ellen's birdie on 16 was what it took to turn the tide. Lisa bogeyed 16 and then double bogeyed 17 to give Ellen a one throw advantage going into 18. Ultimately, both players would take a par which gave Ellen the opportunity to upset the 5th seed and advance to the semifinals where she will be playing on a card with Paige and Jessica at noon tomorrow.
On the 9:30 card, Madison Walker started hot out of the gate. By hole five Madison was -2 with the only other player under par at that point being Rebecca Cox. After a bogey on hole four for Paige, she would stay clean until well into the back nine, carding her first birdie on hole nine. After hole four Rebecca would trade a bogey for a birdie on holes six and seven to stay in the hunt but then on the back nine started to struggle. While Madison, Paige, and Rebecca were getting closer to the semifinals with each hole they completed, Lisa was working into a hole that ultimately prove insurmountable. By the time Lisa moved to the back nine she was +5. Lisa was able to card back-to-back birdies on holes 14 and 15 to begin to make a push but a two throw swing on 16 between her and Ellen Widboom started to put that push in doubt. On hole 17 Lisa went OB on her putt which pushed the pendulum in favor of Ellen.
Going into 18 Lisa needed a birdie to tie Ellen and advance based on Tour Standing and her 150ft upshot for birdie fell short.
Tomorrow the women will be live starting at noon with Paige Pierce, Jessica Weese, Rebecca Cox, and Ellen Widboom. At 3 PM the lead FPO card will be live with Sarah Hokom, Catrina Allen, Paige Bjerkaas, and Madison Walker. Make sure you to tell your friends and get ready to watch!
