For Immediate Release:

DGPT Announces 2021 Season Long Qualification & Awards Criteria

Jeffersonville, VT: The Disc Golf Pro Tour (DGPT) has announced the criteria that will be used to qualify for the Tour Championship and select the 2021 All-Stars, along with a slate of awards including Tour Points Champion, Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year, and Most Improved Player. Additionally, the DGPT has announced the creation of a Tour Card. Players will be able to qualify for a 2022 Tour Card during the 2021 season.

Tour Championship Qualification:

The Tour Championship field will remain at 32 men and 16 women for the 2021 tournament at this time. Qualification will be based solely on Disc Golf Pro Tour points. Tour points totals include points from a competitor’s top 8 Elite Series DGPT finishes, out of 12 possible events for both men and women, and the top 3 Silver Series finishes out of 6 possible events. Silver series tournaments award 25% of the points as Elite Series events. The DGPT reserves the right to alter how many events count towards points totals if Tour events are affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Disc Golf Pro Tour is guaranteeing a purse of $150,000 for the Tour Championship and first-place payouts of $25,000 for the champions of the Men’s and Women’s divisions, respectively.

All-Star Criteria:

The DGPT will expand the amount of All-Stars by 4 for both men and women. All-Stars will be selected by the following criteria:

  • Lead Card: (Top 4 in DGPT Points)
  • Chase Card: (5-8 in DGPT Points)
  • Third Card: (25% Tour Points, 25% Tour Championship Finish, 25% Fan Vote, 25% Media Vote)

All-Star Weekend 2021 is slated to be held approximately one month after the Tour Championship, the weekend of November 13 & 14, 2021, at a location to be announced. The DGPT will also add two invitational challenges to the weekend, one to crown the best putter of the year and one to crown the best “thrower” of the year. Qualification will be a blend of UDisc stats, fan vote, and media vote.

DGPT Season Long Awards:

The DGPT will also be adding a Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year, and Most Improved Player award in addition to the Tour Points Champion. The awards will be determined by the following criteria:

  • Tour Points Champion (Most Tour Points)
  • Player of the Year  (25% Tour Points, 25% Tour Championship Finish, 25% Fan Vote, 25% Media Vote)
  • Rookie of the Year (Given to the player with the highest number of points who has less than 3 DGPT starts over previous years)
  • Most Improved Player (50% Fan Vote, 50% Media Vote)

2022 DGPT Tour Card

The DGPT is pleased to announce the introduction of a Tour Card for the 2022 season. The final details of Tour Card inclusions will be released at a later date but perks will include advanced access to all DGPT event registrations, event site amenities (such as competitor parking, locker room access [when available], and health and fitness services), and enhanced media promotions and opportunities.

The top 72 men and 36 women in DGPT will have the opportunity to purchase a DGPT Tour Card for 2022. Additional qualification standards, Tour Card inclusions, and final 2022 event registration processes will be available later in the 2021 season.
