DGPT Announces Updates to Tour Championship Format & 2024 Playoff Registration Schedule
May 16, 2024: The Disc Golf Pro Tour (DGPT) is pleased to announce its 2024 Playoff registration schedule and two changes to the competition format for this year’s Tour Championship, which will take place at Nevin Disc Golf Course in Charlotte, NC, from October 17 to 20.
The DGPT Championship will maintain the same basic format as in 2023, with four rounds of stroke play and competitors being awarded a starting stroke advantage based on DGPT World Standings. However, the field will not be cut after the first two rounds, and scores will not be reset at any point during the competition. This means that competitors will maintain their starting stroke advantage for the duration of the competition, and all players will complete all four rounds.
“The integration of starting strokes into the DGPT Championship was successful in its 2023 debut and was received well by competitors,” said Jeff Spring, DGPT CEO and Tour Director. “Progression of this concept and its expansion into a four-round format is the next step in our cultivation of a compelling Tour Championship for spectators, both onsite and online, while simultaneously honoring the tremendous season-long consistency and elite level play by the best DGPT athletes of the year.”
The DGPT Championship field remains the same, with the top 32 MPO and top 20 FPO players in the DGPT World Standings qualifying at the end of the playoff season (MVP Open).
As in past seasons, an additional path to qualifying will be offered to winners of DGPT and PDGA Pro Major Events who do not otherwise qualify for the DGPT Championship via the DGPT World Standings. These players will be added to the event as the bottom seeds* but will not displace other qualified players as in years past. This additional qualification path does not apply to DGPT Europe’s Silver events but does apply to the Tour’s Elite-Series-sanctioned competitions in Europe.
Newly updated starting strokes for the 2024 DGPT Championship, which are awarded based on final DGPT World Points Standings and were determined in consultation with StatMando, are as follows:

2024 DGPT Playoff Registration Schedule
The DGPT Playoffs are only open to players who qualify during the season. Individual registration schedules are listed below.
Green Mountain Championship | Sep. 19 – 22
The 2024 Green Mountain Championship will be held at Smugglers’ Notch Resort in Jeffersonville, VT. This will be a four-round event with no cut.

Any players that reach the top 100 (MPO) or top 50 (FPO) in DGPT World Standings after the 2024 LWS Open at Idlewild will be offered registration exemptions for the Green Mountain Championship.
MVP Open | Sep. 26 – 29
The 2024 MVP Open will be held at Maple Hill disc golf course in Leicester, MA. This will be a four-round event with no cut.

All players who reach the top 80 (MPO) or top 40 (FPO) in DGPT World Standings after the 2024 Discraft Great Lakes Open (Sep. 5 – 8) will be offered registration exemptions for the MVP Open.
