Disc Golf Pro Tour Championship presented by Barbasol Announces Record-Setting Pro Purse

A total of $322,000 will be awarded to 52 top competitors

September 27, 2023: The 2023 Disc Golf Pro Tour Championship presented by Barbasol will set a new record for the largest pro purse in the history of the sport, as well as the highest payout to event winners in PDGA history. $322,000 will be awarded to 52 competitors who qualify for the Championship based on season-long points totals. Thanks in large part to an expanded partnership with Barbasol, the Disc Golf Pro Tour is proud to offer co-equal $40,000 first-place prizes to the champions in both the FPO and MPO divisions.

After the final DGPT Playoff event of the year at the MVP Open presented by OTB two weeks ago, the points standings were finalized, and invites have been issued for the Tour’s Championship event. More information on final seeding can be found here.

“Breaking new ground with this record-setting purse is a testament to the rapid growth and potential of professional disc golf,” said DGPT CEO & Tour Director Jeff Spring. “With the unwavering support of all of our partners, we’re not just elevating the game for elite players, but also setting the stage for the future of the sport. The DGPT Championship is about celebrating the talent of our athletes and transmitting the story of professional disc golf as an engaging, high-quality experience that inspires and grows fans of the sport, both on-site and online. As we reach these milestones, we’re steadfast in our journey to take disc golf to new horizons and express our deepest gratitude to everyone who believes in and supports this game.”

The DGPT will debut a new format for its Championship event this year. The event will maintain its stroke play format but now has two distinct halves – a semifinal and a final. The semifinals and finals will have two rounds each, for four rounds total. Instead of receiving byes to later rounds (as was done in the past), players will be given a number of “starting strokes” at the beginning of the semifinals based on their seed as determined by the DGPT points standings. After two rounds, the top twelve MPO and eight FPO competitors will advance to the finals and secure a shot at earning the most lucrative payout in Disc Golf Pro Tour history.

Nevin Park, now in its second year of hosting the Championship, has undergone a significant number of upgrades, including the development of several new holes and spectator areas that will allow fans to get closer to the action. The DGPT has upgraded the VIP ticket experience this year by developing several new holes and clearing substantially larger spectating areas for general admission viewing as well. This will allow fans to catch the action on the heavily wooded and highly technical track with fewer obstructions. You can learn more about these new developments here

The DGPT Championship begins on Thursday, October 12. All the action will stream live on the Disc Golf Network. Spectating tickets are also available for purchase
